Earlier this fall, it seemed as if Sopranos creator David Chase answered a question that has long gone unanswered for fans of the hit HBO series.
In a recent interview, David Chase made some comments about the ambiguous final moment of the long-running HBO series. A moment that left us wondering about the fate of our favorite anti-hero Tony Soprano.
The recent comments made by Chase seemed to suggest that the prolific mobster had, in fact, met his end as The Sopranos came to an end.
However, the creator of the series is now telling fans that these comments were misinterpreted. And, that he did not necessarily confirm Tony Soprano’s fate in the interview.
In a recent discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the Sopranos creator made some comments that many have misinterpreted as a confirmation of James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano’s death as the series came to an end in 2006.
However, since that interview, Chase has made comments noting that he did not “settle” the end of the series by confirming Tony’s death.
“Everybody who believes I said Tony is dead in a Hollywood Reporter article: works for me,” David Chase said in a recent statement. “Now you’ll stop f—ing asking me.”
A Shocking Ending
The popular HBO series ended after six seasons on the air. However, it has remained a favorite in pop culture.
In The Sopranos series finale, the episode ends with, Tony Soprano meeting his family at a roadside diner. As Tony sits at the table, we see him often scanning the room noticing a variety of customers as they mill about the diner. Tony Soprano soon begins to play the popular Journey song, Don’t Stop Believing on the jukebox.
Then, just as the music builds and Tony’s daughter Meadow, is about to enter the restaurant, the mafia man looks up from behind his menu, and then…cut to black.
Fans Of ‘The Sopranos’ Are Back To Wondering About A Major Moment
Fans of the hit series were shocked by this ending, of course, wondering for years. Wondering what happened with Tony in that final moment.
Did the Soprano family finish their supper and go about their lives? Or did Tony die the moment our screens went to black?
Obviously, many fans of the series were excited to hear the news. Feeling that David Chase seemed to have finally given us the answer. But now, it looks as if we are back to wondering what, exactly, happened in the diner after our screens went black.
The Sopranos premiered on HBO in 1999 and quickly became one of television’s most well-known dramas. The series features James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano the head of a New Jersey crime family.
The hit series follows Tony Soprano as he works as a mobster in the mafia. Tony fulfills these duties while juggling his roles as a husband and father. Tony Soprano’s actions were often deplorable as a mafia boss.
However, fans of the show often found it hard to hate Tony Soprano as he struggled to find a balance between his multiple roles.
