Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View” just announced that she’s resigning from the show.

Rumors began to fly this morning when a source revealed that Meghan McCain had plans to resign from “The View” during today’s show. But those rumors were just confirmed when McCain officially announced her exit during today’s episode. In true McCain fashion, she got right to the point.

“So, I am just going to rip the band-aid off,” she said. “I am here to tell all of my wonderful co-hosts and the viewers at home that this is going to my last season here at “‘The View.'”

She added that she did not take the decision lightly. She said that she spent a long time weighing her options and that she recruited her most trusted friends for guidance.

“This was not an easy decision. It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer and talking with my family and close friends,” said McCain.

Why Is Meghan McCain Leaving ‘The View’?

McCain also addressed her reason for leaving before any rumors could be spread. She said that her time with her family during the pandemic last year really changed the way she viewed life.

“COVID has changed the world for all of us,” said McCain. “And it changed, at least me for me, the way I’m looking at life, the way I want to live my life.”

McCain said that following the end of “The View”‘s run last year, COVID-19 was at its height and she had just found out that she was pregnant. Her OBGYN suggested that she leave New York as a way to keep herself safe from the virus. So she returned to Washington, D.C. where she has split her time for most of her life. There she and her husband stayed for the year. McCain added that she realized that D.C. is the place she wants her daughter, Liberty, to grow up, “take her first steps and say her first words.” She didn’t say anything about plans for future projects. For now, she will simply enjoy time with her husband and new baby.

“It is not easy to leave. But I feel like this is just the right decision for me at this moment. And I want to thank all of you…I am just eternally grateful to have had this opportunity here. So, seriously, thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart.”

McCain ended her heartfelt goodbye with a joke. She said, “And I am still here until the end of July so, if you want to fight a little more, we still have four more weeks.” Her co-stars laughed with her before expressing their gratitude for her time on the show.
