‘The View’: Meghan McCain Called Out for Lack of ‘Courage’ by Mary Trump in First Episode of Final Week on Show

Meghan McCain appeared in every segment of Monday’s episode of The View. But she did not participate in an interview with Mary Trump. Trump, the niece and outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, said McCain “didn’t have the courage” to face her and have a discussion about racism in America.

Trump was on the show to promote her new book The Reckoning: Our Nation’s Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal. But when talk turned to the violent riots at the Capitol on January 6th, Trump took aim at McCain.

“It’s a shame that your colleague didn’t have the courage to come on and have this conversation with me but I appreciate that you are all willing to take up these very difficult subjects because racism in my view is at the heart of everything that’s wrong in 21st Century America,” Trump said, according to Deadline.

Several Capitol police officers testified during a Congressional hearing about the racism they faced from the protestors that day.

“One thing Donald proved is that using racism as a platform was successful, and I think that’s why we see so much strife in this country,” Trump added, according to Yahoo. “And we need to continue having the kinds of conversations about race and gender that you have.”

It’s unclear why McCain didn’t participate in the interview.

McCain’s last episode of The View is Friday. She called herself the “queen of burnout” in an emotional Instagram post about her departure. The new mom has been traveling between Washington, D.C., where her family lives, and New York, where The View is filmed, for a year.

‘The View’ In No Rush to Replace Meghan McCain

The View is following in Jeopardy‘s footsteps and plans to use guest hosts in place of Meghan McCain after she leaves the show on Friday.

TMZ reported producers of The View are in no hurry to replace Meghan McCain. They want to see try out different people to see how they fit in with the other co-hosts. However, TMZ added that the show plans to hire a Republican or a conservative to maintain the current political balance. Meghan McCain is a Republican and often got into heated arguments with the other, more liberal co-hosts of The View.

However, several news outlets say the show’s first choice for her replacement would be CNN correspondent Ana Navarro. But it will cost them, Page Six reported.

“Ana has a big following and is beloved,” a source told Page Six. “(Navarro) likes being part-time at The View. She appears on other shows and is big on the speaking-tour market and probably makes a lot of money from it. She lives in Florida and doesn’t want to move to New York. They’d have to pay her well.”
