Meghan McCain took a break from The View to celebrate her daughter and one of her favorite holidays.

McCain will be with The View for the rest of July. But a week ago, just before the morning talk show took a holiday break, McCain announced she was leaving the panel after four years. The daughter of the late Sen. John McCain said one of the main reasons she’s leaving is because she wanted to raise her daughter in the Washington, D.C. area with her husband.

So, McCain showed off photos of baby girl Liberty Sage, who was dressed in her best patriotic attire. That’s a precious blue and white star dress, with red and white trim.

The View co-host captioned the photos: “I was the parent who said they wouldn’t be only sharing pictures of their baby so as not to be over the top…. But my little Liberty Bell had so many adorable first Fourth of July photos ~ I can’t help it!”

McCain Spent Pandemic in DC as The View Went Remote

The View, like so many other network programs, went remote last year after the shutdown for the Covid-19 pandemic. McCain was pregnant at the time. She was living in New York, while husband Ben Domenech, who is editor of the conservative site The Federalist, resides in D.C. McCain left NYC to spend the rest of her pregnancy with her husband. She gave birth to Liberty, her first child, Sept. 28.

At some point, The View will require its hosts to do the show back in the studio. But McCain didn’t want to return to NYC.

Since she announced her departure, stories packed with anonymous sources have leaked info about why McCain really was leaving The View. Given the amount of blowups on air between McCain and some of the other hosts, on-set tension was obvious.

Page Six reported that McCain’s departure coincided with a change on the executive level at ABC.

A source told the site that McCain “no longer had the climate of protection she had under [former ABC News president] James Goldston. When he was there, there was this sense of retribution if you didn’t get along with Meghan. She would act out, yell at the audience, guests, and fight with her co-hosts. But there was never an ‘OK, you have to get along with your co-hosts.”

Page Six also reported that even Whoopi Goldberg, who serves as The View moderator, complained about McCain. So did Joy Behar, Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin.

“Everyone was at their wits’ end — even Whoopi, and she’s the chillest of them all,” a source told Page Six about The View. “Whoopi is never going to advocate for anyone to get fired. She’s not about that. But she was very clear that she no longer wanted to work with Meghan.”

Yet other sources told multiple news outlets that ABC executives begged McCain to stay.

Stay tuned to see who will replace McCain. A new season starts after Labor Day.
