‘The View’ Pulls Two Hosts From Show on Live TV Just Before Interview with VP Kamala Harris

The View pulled two of its hosts moments before the talk show was supposed to do a live interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin were with the other two co-hosts, Joy Behar and Sara Haines, for the first part of the show and its hot topics segment. Then their tests for Covid-19 came back positive. Coincidentally, the families of Hostin and Navarro have been hit hard by the virus.

When The View returned from its first commercial break, a producer directed Hostin and Navarro to leave the stage. Behar was about to introduce Harris, who was in the studio in New York, when she was stopped in mid-sentence.

“There seems to be something happening here that I’m not 100 percent aware of,” Behar said. “Can someone please apprise me of the situation?”

The View went to another commercial break. And it was only then that Behar found out what happened. Behar explained to the audience in studio and the millions watching from home that Hostin and Navarro had tested positive for Covid.

“No matter how hard we try, these things happen,” Behar said. “They probably have a breakthrough case. They will be OK. I am sure because they are both vaccinated.”

Hostin is married to Manny Hostin, an orthopedic surgeon. Both her in-laws died of Covid last year. Navarro’s husband, Al Cardenas, spent five days in the hospital last fall being treated for Covid.

‘The View’ Hyped Harris Interview All Week As History Making

The show had been hyping the Harris interview all week, billing it as history being made. It’s not every day that the sitting vice president joins a daytime talk show. However, Covid-19 now is an everyday kind of occurrence. Both co-hosts were vaccinated. It’s unclear whether they were showing symptoms. Hostin and Navarro, in Thursday’s show, appeared fine.

Behar and Haines finally interviewed Harris with about 10 minutes remaining in the show. Harris didn’t appear onset with Behar and Haines. Rather, after the surprise of the Covid positives, the vice president was backstage and did the interview remotely. To fill time before producers could set up the interview with Harris, Behar and Haines took questions from The View audience.

One audience member asked Behar what TV moment stood out the most to her. Behar, a stand-up comedian, quipped: “This one is definitely … I mean, one thing about working in television is there’s never a dull moment.”

When Harris finally joined Behar and Haines, via remote, the vice president wished Hostin and Navarro well.

“Sunny and Ana are strong women and I know they’re fine,” Harris said. “But it really also does speak to the fact that they’re vaccinated and vaccines really make all the difference because otherwise we would be concerned about hospitalization and worse.”
