Tonight, “The Voice” kicks off the Battle Rounds on the hit singing competition. In addition to the four regular coaches, four Battle Advisors will also step up to help competitors.

During the Battle Rounds, two members of each coach’s team will compete against each other. They’ll sing the same song and receive guidance from the same coach and Battle Advisor. After both performances, the coach chooses who stays and who goes. Other coaches can swoop in and steal one contestant as well.

“The Voice” announced who the Battle Advisors would be earlier this year. But now, the four coaches have spoken out on what it’s been like to work with them, according to TV Insider.

‘The Voice’ Coaches Speak Out About Their Battle Advisors

First up, new coach Ariana Grande praised Broadway sensation and actress Kristin Chenoweth.

“Aside from being the most incredible technical singer on this planet, she evaluates the intention behind every lyric like no other!” Grande gushed. “Kristin was so helpful in making sure that each vocal was accompanied by the presence and emotional integrity it deserved.”

Next, “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton dished on country singer Dierks Bentley.

“Dierks has a strong work ethic: He’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry, pushes boundaries with his music and tours all year long. That’s the discipline he brought,” Shelton revealed. “[He also] has the same hairstyle as the guy from ‘The Greatest American Hero’. He did an amazing job getting the singers to relax and be in the moment.”

Pretty high praise from the “The Voice” coach who’s been there the longest. John Legend also had kind things to say about pop superstar Camila Cabello.

“She’s been a part of another competition show [The X Factor], so she knows how to work under these unique circumstances,” Legend explained. “The most useful thing Camila told [contestants] was to not only be singers but actors. It’s not just about hitting the notes but making the audience believe you and feel your story.”

Emotion seems to be a common theme with these judges. Kelly Clarkson also mentioned that when talking about her Battle Advisor, Jason Aldean.

“Jason has so much experience in the studio, onstage and creating collaborations with other artists just like we are doing. He gave great advice on knowing when to hold back vocally and not give everything away all the time but keep specific moments special,” Clarkson said.

What Happens After the Battle Rounds?

Once the Battle Rounds conclude, the contestants who made it compete in the Knockouts. The Knockouts are similar to the Battle Rounds, except you don’t know who you’re up against. Each team member picks a specific song that really makes them shine, regardless of their opponent.

And to help them with those decisions? The Mega Mentor. This year’s Mega Mentor is none other than Ed Sheeran.

Sheeran will help them perfect their performance, then each contestant competes against a random opponent from their team. Once again, one advances while the other goes home.
