‘The Voice’: Here’s Which Coach’s Team Carson Daly Says He’d Join on the Show

by Madison Miller

Carson Daly may be the longtime host of “The Voice,” but that doesn’t stop him from daydreaming about which star coach’s team he’d want to join. That is if he could sing and would ever possibly compete on the show.

When contestants get a four-chair turn, it can be an agonizing decision to choose a coach. Each one will offer a completely different experience as well as share unique wisdom and feedback.

Carson Daly Picks Coach on ‘The Voice’

So, which direction would Carson Daly lean?

“I would choose John Legend. You probably thought I was gonna say Blake [Shelton], because we’re close, but that’s why I wouldn’t want to be on his team. Because I know him too well. He offers me nothing,” Carson Daly said to The Wrap.

If he’s choosing between current coaches, Daly had the choice of Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, or brand new coach, Ariana Grande. Nick Jonas just left “The Voice” as a coach.

At the end of the day, Daly’s reasoning does make a lot of sense. He’s thinking of it all logistically and professionally. If he was trying to win “The Voice” he would want to pick a coach that could really focus and get down to business without too many personal distractions.

However, Daly and Shelton are close, which means that Shelton may know more about how to help Daly. It’s definitely a two-sided issue. Shelton has also proved that he can take contestants all the way to the end — he’s won the show a total of eight times since his 20 seasons as coach.

It’s mostly a surprising pick because Daly and Shelton are so close. Recently, Shelton married legendary pop artist and former “The Voice” coach, Gwen Stefani in a very intimate ceremony at his ranch. It was exclusively family and very close friends. In fact, many friends didn’t get an invite and heard about the exclusive event after it already happened. Carson Daly, however, was there to officiate the wedding.

Carson Daly and Blake Shelton Friendship

He told People that getting to be involved in the ceremony was a “very, very special” moment for him.

“It was incredible to be a part of such an important moment in their lives. The ceremony was a perfect blend of country and glamour, of course, just like Blake and Gwen,” he said.

It makes sense that the duo is so close. The pair have been working together on “The Voice” for about 10 years now.

Earlier this year, he spoke on the “Today” show about his friendship with Shelton and why he’s one of the closest people in his life.

“We’re very close, which is ironic because I — obviously, you know, I’m a producer on the show, I’m involved in recruiting coaches. I’ve talked some people into doing the show. And he was the person I knew the least. And so it’s just ironic that 10 years later, he’s the one that I’m definitely closest with. Our families vacation together at this point, and so I’m very grateful,” Daly said at the time.

Although he may not strategically pick him as his coach, Carson Daly would pick his buddy Blake Shelton for just about anything else.
