Corey Ward of Team Kelly on The Voice, brought Kelly Clarkson to tears last night after performing her song.
You know you covered a song well when the songwriter is moved to tears. And that’s exactly what happened during last night’s episode of The Voice. Kelly Clarkson was filled with emotion when her team member Corey Ward delivered a performance of her own song “Already Gone.” During rehearsal before the performance, Snoop Dogg, who is a Mega Mentor this season, said that he got “chills” while listening to Ward’s cover. When Kelly Clarkson first heard the song, she started tearing up.
Clarkson co-wrote “Already Gone” with Ryan Tedder for her fourth studio album in 2009, All I Ever Wanted. The song was released as the album’s fourth single. During the episode, Clarkson said that even years after first writing it, she can feel the message behind the song.
“It’s interesting when you write something, and you don’t feel it until years later,” said Clarkson.
Snoop Dogg added, “When you can get the songwriter to lose emotional control, that’s when you doin’ your job.”
Kelly Clarkson added that she was “going through something” when she first wrote, “Already Gone.” She said that hearing Ward’s cover brought the message of the song right back to her. She is currently navigating a divorce with her former husband Brandon Blackstock.
“When I wrote ‘Already Gone,’ I was going through something that I thought, ‘It’s OK. It doesn’t always have to work out,” said Clarkson. “Hearing him sing that to me, in my life now, it’s like, are you smacking me in the face with my own message?”
When Can Fans Expect New Kelly Clarkson Music?
Ultimately, Kelly Clarkson chose Ward to continue in the competition during last night’s episode of The Voice.
“I was like, ‘Maybe that’s how that was supposed to sound!'” said Clarkson of Ward’s cover of “Already Gone.”
Listening to a new rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s song now has fans itching for new music. So, when can we expect some new tunes from Kelly? Although she hasn’t released any specific details about a new album, she did reveal that she has about 60 songs ready to be recorded. During an interview earlier this year, she revealed that she couldn’t stop writing during her divorce.
“I have written like 60 songs, it is an insane amount of getting it out. I think that’s a blessing in itself,” said Clarkson. “Anytime you go through some life, it’s such an awesome thing to have that outlet, regardless of whether people hear it or not.”
