It’s not a guarantee, but if you are a man who gets a coaching spot on The Voice, you’re probably going to win a pretty sweet award.
At least, that’s what it feels like to Nick Jonas and Kelly Clarkson. The pair had an inherently funny and spicy conversation about People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive award.
This is primarily because The Voice coaches Blake Shelton and John Legend, as well as former judge Adam Levine, have won the title.
Going on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jonas expressed his confusion over his coworkers winning the title.
“There’s a history of the guys being named ‘Sexiest Man Alive’,” Clarkson said. “We’ve talked about this in interviews.”
Jonas doesn’t wait long to hop in.
“But it doesn’t really make sense,” Jonas responded. “We have talked about this. But Blake Shelton and John Legend…”
Jonas appears to be trailing off to imply his doubtful attitude. As the sole male coach to not win the award, it only makes sense that Jonas would poke fun at his competitors.
As he continued, Kelly pointed out Levine’s title as well. Jonas’ response is equally hilarious.
“Makes more sense,” Levine said.
Blake Shelton and John Legend, Nick Jonas’ pecking order has officially been established. However, he does continue to elaborate how he would feel to be the next The Voice member on the list.
“If I was ever invited to this brotherhood,” Jonas said. “I think I would question the validity of this. Think they’re running out of people, I think maybe Blake paid somebody. I don’t want to start rumors.”
Ball’s in your court, Mr. Shelton.
The Voice Judges Winning ‘Sexiest Man Alive’
With three winners in a seven-year span, The Voice seemingly knows who’s going to win the award. While the popularity of the show might play a factor there, it also seems like they could be catering to their audience.
The first victor was Adam Levine in 2013, two years after the show began airing. The Maroon 5 frontman had been in front of audiences for two years as one of the cast’s original coaches.
Next up is Blake Shelton, who won the award in 2017. Two of the show’s original coaches, two of the ‘Sexiest Men Alive’.
John Legend had his turn in 2019. The renowned singer and songwriter joined as a full-time coach in Season 16, and sure enough, he was the winner of the honor soon after.
Is there a connection? Maybe not. But is there some considerable overlap? The winners can speak for themselves.
