“The Waltons” was all about a family living in rural Virginia during both the Great Depression and WWII.

The show had a series of different actors portraying the beloved characters. Some stars of the show included Richard Thomas, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, Ellen Corby, Will Geer, Judy Norton, Jon Walmsley, and several others.

With such a large and diverse cast, only two actors appeared in every single episode of the show’s nine seasons.

‘The Waltons’ Reoccurring Characters

With a show full of entertaining twists and turns, fans could always expect to see one thing on the screen consistently each time.

That is Jon Walmsley and Eric Scott who appeared in every single episode of the show, according to IMDb. The two played Jason and Ben, respectively.

Jason Walton is the second-oldest brother of the family. Viewers got to see his musical talent on-screen. He is less inclined to work at the mill unlike some of his other siblings. Instead, he decided to study music in school. He marries Toni on the show and the couple have five children together.

An interesting part of his nuclear family is the couple actually names their children after popular country singers of the time. This includes Roy, Merle, Tyler, Patsy, and Loretta.

According to MeTV, Walmsley and Lisa Harrison were actually married in real life. They got married six months before their characters met on TV. The couple got married in Malibu, California, and the entire cast of the show was there to see the ceremony. Ralph Waite even officiated the ceremony.

Benjamin “Ben” Walton was the third son of the family. He has what would be considered a more entrepreneurial spirit. Ben was always getting into ridiculous schemes to make money and then gets bailed out by his father.

As an adult, he made money by helping run the mill with his father. Eventually, near the end of the season, he elopes and married Cindy and the two have children together.

‘The Waltons’ Movies

In addition to the television series, there were also six different reunion movies. This included “A Wedding on Walton’s Mountain,” “Mother’s Day on Walton’s Mountain,” “A Day for Thanks on Walton’s Mountain,” “A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion,” “A Walton Wedding,” and “A Walton Easter.”

Both Walmsley and Scott also appeared in each of these movies in addition to every single episode of the classic show.

The show continues to be popular through reruns today. The very first season earned a Peabody Award. In 2013, TV Guide ranked the show No. 34 on its list of the 60 Best Series of All Time.

Certainly, that could not have been possible without the consistency of reoccurring characters. Otherwise, the family dynamic so beloved on the show would have diminished in impact.
