‘The Waltons’: See the Full Cast for ‘Homecoming’ Special Movie

If the sweet and dramatic lives of “The Waltons” always gravitated you to your TV screen, a new project may do just the same.

Recent announcements shared that fans would get a momentary trip back to Walton’s Mountain.

A movie called “The Waltons’ Homecoming” is coming to the CW. It marks the 50th anniversary of the original movie that launched the series back in 1971. The original movie was called “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story.” The movie’s success led to an entire series that stretched for nine seasons.

Now, the success of the series has led to a movie, which is a fun turnaround of events.

According to Deadline, the CW has selected the cast for the upcoming film. Ben Lawson will star as patriarch John Walton Sr. Lawson’s most recent recognizable role is in the Netflix series “Firefly Lane” as Johnny Ryan. He also appears in projects like “No Strings Attached,” “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” “Doubt” and “Designated Survivor.”

He will be the 42-year-old father of six children and the husband to Olivia Walton. Bellamy Young is portraying Olivia in the upcoming project. She is most recognizable for her roles in “Scandal” and “Mission: Impossible III.”

The two are raising six kids, all with their own interests, issues, and drama. One of which is John Boy, originally played by Richard Thomas in the series. Thomas is returning to be the narrator on the series rather than playing his original role. Instead, Logan Shroyer is joining the project as John Boy. He is in the hit emotional NBC series, “This Is Us.”

More Cast and Plot Line of ‘The Waltons’ Movie

Similar to the original series, the upcoming movie will be set in the 1933 Depression Era. It comes from the perspective of John Boy — the eldest child. As the oldest, he must help take care of the other seven kids. Although his parents are pushing one thing, John Boy has always wanted to be a writer.

The drama in the movie comes from a letter from John Sr. who is away on a trip right before Christmas. He is expected to be home for the holiday, but a storm threatens this plan. Suddenly, he is nowhere to be found and John Boy sets out on a journey to find his father in a dramatic telling.

Marcelle Le Blanc (“PEN 15” and “Fear Street Part Two: 1978”) will play Mary Ellen Walton. Christian Finlayson (“Ozark” and “Bigger”) will be playing Jason Walton. Tatum Matthews (“The Artifice Girl”) will play Erin Walton and Samuel Goergen (“Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan”) will play Jim Bob Walton. Callaway Corrick, Rebecca Koon, Alpha Trivette, Marilyn McCoo, and Billy Davis Jr. are also in the film.

While the movie is just expected to be a one-and-done project, you never know what could happen. The CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz told reporters “nothing is ever really one and done” in the TV world, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If the movie does well, a series may be considered.
