Oh, my. Three’s Company star John Ritter might’ve been more like his bachelor character Jack Tripper than we realized.
According to his Three’s Company co-star Joyce DeWitt, Ritter possibly had flings with the show’s guest stars. It was a hot topic when DeWitt reunited with Suzanne Somers after 30 years. The two got together on Somer’s online show, Breaking Through. This was back in 2012, nine years after Ritter passed away from a heart condition.
Three’s Company was a hit show from 1977-84. It was innovative in that it featured two single women living with a single man. And there was so fooling around between the roommates and best friends. DeWitt played Janet Wood and Somers was Chrissy Snow. The show was all about the single life.
While there was no fooling around between the stars, the guest stars might’ve been another Three’s Company story. Both Somers and Ritter were married during the show’s run. DeWitt dated actor Randolph Mantooth and was with Ray Buktenica during part of the show’s run.
Joyce DeWitt Said She Didn’t Learn About Flings Until After Three’s Company Ended
In the episode, one question in particular popped up: “Was there any romance on the set with anyone?” This is where Dewitt dropped a bomb.
“Quite frankly, I didn’t know and I didn’t think so,” DeWitt said of Ritter’s rumored flings. “But years later, I found out there was some hah-hah (funny stuff) going on.”
Somers asked for names.
“I can’t really say,” DeWitt said. “But I think Jonathan and a lot of our guest stars. I didn’t know.” DeWitt then threw up her hands.
“I didn’t know until years later,” DeWitt said of her Three’s Company star. “But I did hear some stories and I was in shock. Cause they were really discreet. I didn’t know.”
Somers said it made sense to her, saying that Ritter was often had bedroom activities on the brain. But she didn’t figure it was anything more than words.
“It all seemed very innocent. I guess not!”
She also said: “Well, when I was on, I didn’t notice anything like that.”
Even before Three’s Company, John Ritter had a nice guy vibe. After all, TV audiences first noticed him when he played Reverend Matthew Fordwick on the The Waltons.
Ritter married actress Nancy Morgan in 1977, when Three’s Company first launched. The couple had three children — Jason (1980), Carly (1982) and Tyler (1985). The two were divorced in 1996. Three years later, Ritter married actress Amy Yasbeck. She and the Three’s Company star played love interests in two movies and on The Cosby Show. Yasbeck co-starred in Wings and Ritter played her estranged husband.
They were together when Ritter died, Sept. 11, 2003. Doctors initially treated him for a heart attack, but he suffered an aortic dissection.

Show Stars Each Reunited with Ritter in 2003
The stars of Three’s Company lost touch, but reunited before Ritter died. For DeWitt, the two had a chance meeting in New York a month before Ritter died. Ritter took her to several parties.
Somers, in a 2011 interview on The Talk, said Ritter tracked her down at a hair salon. The two hadn’t spoken since Somers left Three’s Company over a contract dispute in 1982.
“I really felt so badly because I love John Ritter,” Somers said. “And it was over a contract dispute that never should have infiltrated John and I.
“In the beauty salon, the receptionist comes over and says, ‘You have a phone call… It’s John Ritter.’ I go over and pick up the phone and he says, ‘Listen, I forgive you.’ I had a little trouble with that, but I let that go, and I said, ‘I love you and I’ve always loved you.’”
