“Last Man Standing” and “Assembly Required” star Tim Allen has a penchant for tweeting deep thoughts. And he was at it again Monday night, when he dropped a quote from Joseph Campbell on his followers.
“‘When we quit thinking primarily about ourselves and our own self-preservation, we undergo a truly heroic transformation of consciousness.’ – Joseph Campbell,” Allen tweeted.
Tim Allen Quotes Scholar Who Studied Mythology
Joseph Campbell was a university professor and author. He became famous for his contributions to the field of comparative mythology. Campbell developed the theory that all myths and epic stories are connected in the human psyche, and that there is a universal need to explain the social, celestial and spiritual worlds.
Campbell’s book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” argued that there is one archetypal heroic journey story. It charted the essential conditions, stages and results of that journey, which he said is a feature of all cultures around the world.
After that book, Campbell would go on to write more than a half-dozen more on mythology. He tackled primitive mythology, Oriental mythology, Occidental mythology and creative mythology, among others.
Campbell’s ideas gained popular traction after Bill Moyers released a series of television interviews with him in 1988, the year after Campbell died. Titled “The Power of Myth,” their conversations lasted six hours in total. And they made Campbell’s ideas a part of popular culture.
Fans Await Word on ‘Assembly Required’ Renewal
Meanwhile, fans – not to mention the cast and crew – of “Assembly Required” are waiting with bated breath. The History Channel has yet to say if it will renew the show for Season 2. The reality competition series features Allen and his “Home Improvement” co-star Richard Karn as the judges of inventive building contests.
The first season of “Assembly Required” ended around the same time as the final season of “Last Man Standing,” Allen’s hit sitcom co-starring Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo. Allen expressed considerable sadness over the finale of that show. “Last Man Standing” lasted for nine seasons – six on ABC, three on Fox.
“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing,’” Allen said in a statement upon news of the show’s cancellation. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near-decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done… I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
