The “Last Man Standing,” co-starring Tim Allen and Nancy Travis, is ending but not without a plot spin for the FOX TV series.

The family comedy is officially ending after the airing of season 9. ABC canceled the show after season 7. But FOX picked up “Last Man Standing” and revived it for two more seasons.

According to Yahoo.com, the final season will start with a time jump. As a matter of fact, it’s not picking up where it left off, even though season 8 was cut short because of the pandemic.

When the Baxters take the screen again, Kristin, played by Amanda Fuller, will have welcomed her baby. Furthermore Molly McCook, who plays Mandy, will be further along in her pregnancy.

Then there’s Mike and Vanessa, played by Allen and Travis. They will be contemplating their next steps. Moreover, this means retirement for Mike from Outdoor Man, and most importantly, choosing a successor.

Fox confirmed the series’ final season in October. “I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing’,” series star and executive producer Allen said in a statement. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near-decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”

The final season of “Last Man Standing” premieres Jan. 3 . Then the show will move to its regular day and time, Thursdays on Fox.

Tim Allen Returns to Filming Amid Pandemic

The final season of the “Last Man Standing” began filming, but in order to do so, the cast and crew received daily COVID-19 tests. Allen took to Twitter to keep the mood lighthearted about the testing.

Allen jokes about receiving the nose swabs that are typically unpleasant. However, he’s happy to be back with his “Last Man Standing” family.
