Tim Allen’s Latest Comments on Marc Maron’s Podcast Go Viral

On Monday, actor Tim Allen shared comments about former President Donald Trump that went viral after his appearance on a popular podcast.

Allen joined comedian Marc Maron on his WTF podcast and said he actually enjoyed that Trump made people mad. In addition, the Last Man Standing star explained why he gravitates towards the Republican Party.

“Once I realized that the last president pissed people off, I kind of liked that,” Allen explained. “So it was fun to just not say anything. Didn’t join in the lynching crowd.”

He revealed that he’s a fiscal conservative because he hates paying taxes. Allen also mentioned that he dislikes not knowing how his taxes are used when the government takes half his income.

Additionally, Allen attended Trump’s 2017 presidential inauguration. Following the inauguration, he compared his Hollywood experience as a conservative to living in 1930s Nazi Germany, which led to public backlash. That led Maron to ask Allen how he minimized the backlash for his conservative views.

“I literally don’t preach anything,” Allen said. “What I’ve done is just not joined into, as I call it, the ‘we culture.’ I’m not telling anybody else how to live. I don’t like that, ‘we should do this’ or, ‘we should do that.’”

Even though Allen reportedly leans right with his political views, he said he’s friendly with Democratic leaders Bill and Hillary Clinton. However, he didn’t vote for Hillary in 2016 because he didn’t believe she “should have been president.”

“In the end, you go the other direction,” Allen said. “There’s nothing personal about it. If you don’t like it then wait ’til the next election.”

Tim Allen Opens Up Jail Time and Cocaine Charges

During the same podcast appearance, Tim Allen spoke about his time in jail in the ’70s stemming from cocaine charges.

Allen spoke candidly about his younger days and what led him down a troubled path on the way to jail. When the former Home Improvement star was only 11, a drunk driver killed his father in a car accident. Furthermore, around the same time and at an early age, Allen began having issues with alcohol himself.

“I was an eff up,” Allen acknowledged, according to a FOX News report. “After my old man died, I really just played games with people. Told adults what they wanted to hear and then stole their booze.”

“Really I was Eddie Haskell [from Leave it to Beaver]: ‘Yes, Mrs. Cleaver. No, Mrs. Cleaver,’” Allen explained. “I knew exactly what adults wanted — make your bed, be polite, use a napkin — and then I’d go steal everything in the house.”

In 1978, his reckless behavior came to a head. While in college, police arrested Allen while he was in possession of a pound of cocaine at Michigan‘s Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport. At just 23 years old, Allen pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges. He’d spend the next two years and four months of his life in a federal prison.

“We were a bunch of college kids — a bunch of the kids who overdid it,” Allen said. “Two of us took [the punishment] for about 20 guys.”
