Tom Cruise made headlines in England after he landed a helicopter in a family’s backyard this week. If that stunt seemed like something he’d pull in his upcoming movie, then the most recent development on the set of “Mission: Impossible 7” took it a step further.
Although, it’s not nearly as lighthearted a story. Tom Cruise’s bodyguard and the BMW they’ve been driving around Birmingham while working on the movie became the target of a full-on heist.
Per The Express, the iconic action star lost thousands of dollars worth of luggage that he had stowed in the car. The six-figure BMW X7 was parked outside the Grand Hotel in Birmingham when it was stolen. According to local police, the culprit/s really channeled their inner spy movie villainy, employing technology to scan the keyless ignition code and make away with the car.
Of course, their tech only got them so far. The BMW was equipped with a tracking device and has since been recovered. But not before the thieves took all of its contents for themselves.
“It’s a huge embarrassment for the security team and the guy who had been driving it was hopping mad — but not as mad as Tom!” a source told The Sun.
The movie star’s anger is understandable. With Tom Cruise’s resources, one would imagine he’d prefer the car be successfully stolen rather than the personal belongings inside. A new BMW is simple enough to find. The contents of his luggage, however, may not be so easily replaced.
Of all the movie stars to rob, Tom Cruise may be the most terrifying. The actor has been making “Mission: Impossible” movies since 1996. And it’s no secret how seriously he takes his roles. Cruise has been known to train religiously for the sake of performing his own stunts.
Tom Cruise is Becoming an English Fixture as He Works on New Movie
The headlines from earlier this week saw Tom Cruise land a helicopter in a Birmingham family’s backyard. He had the pilot take the kids for a ride before heading out. But he’s been making public appearances left and right over the past few weeks.
In July, Cruise filled out the star-studded attendance at the British Grand Prix. He crossed paths with fellow acting legend Harrison Ford. The two caught up and undoubtedly discussed their shared love for big engines and high speeds.
The Grand Prix appearance came only after Tom Cruise was spotted taking in the sights and sounds of Wimbledon. It didn’t take long for the crowd to notice his presence, and he got to enjoy a brief moment of praise from the tennis-loving audience. He waved off the cheers with a smile and a humble bow.
Perhaps he should stick with helicopters for transportation throughout the duration of his stay in England. They make for much cooler entrances at sporting events, anyway.
