When it comes to her work on “9-1-1” with Angela Bassett, actress Aisha Hinds is all aboard the bandwagon of fellow fans.
Hinds, in an interview with Assignment X, was asked if she thought it helped to have Bassett as an executive producer.
“Absolutely,” she said without hesitation. “And it’s also helpful that it is Angela Bassett. Because obviously, as an African-American woman and an actor, she’s one of those people that is the mother of the Holy Grail for me.
“I’ve grown up watching her work, and I count it an absolute privilege to just sit in her presence and watch her craft articulate itself on this show,” Hinds, who plays firefighter/paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, said.
Bassett stars as Los Angeles Police Department patrol Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash. She’s “married” to costar Peter Krause, who plays Los Angeles Fire Department Station 18 Captain Robert “Bobby” Nash, on the show.
Other regular cast members include Oliver Stark as firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley, Kenneth Choi as firefighter/paramedic Howard “Howie”/”Chimney” Han, and Rockmond Dunbar as Athena’s ex-husband, Michael Grant.
“9-1-1” has been on FOX for four seasons and launched its fifth season on Monday. Tune in next week at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central as first responders take center stage.
‘9-1-1’ Star Was Friends With Actress Who Joined Cast Later On In Series
It must have been really sweet for Hinds to take note when an old friend managed to join the “9-1-1” cast after she did.
Well, Outsiders, probably it makes a lot of people who are looking for a familiar face happy when one does appear.
For Hinds, that person happened to be actress Tracie Thoms.
While still speaking with Assignment XC, Hinds said she and Thoms knew one another before they played a married couple. Thoms plays Henrietta’s wife, Karen Wilson.
Hinds said “Yes” when asked if she previously worked with Thoms. Then, the actress shared some more about working with Thoms.
She said that Thoms reached out to her and tell her she was joining the cast of “9-1-1.” Before telling her friend, though, Thoms had a meeting about joining the show.
“Tracie and I have been long-time friends,” Hinds said. “So the day that she had her meeting about it, she called and let me know that she was doing it, and I was like, ‘Ah, perfection!'”
Well, Hinds said that she “was so glad when she showed up on Day 1 because we already had a beautiful chemistry and trust with one another to take on the relationship of Karen and Henrietta.”
The drama definitely has a lot of star power within its cast. They all seemingly work together quite well and give viewers something to become involved with each week.
