Fans had a bomb dropped on them when we left “Blue Bloods” at the end of Season 11. The return of Danny Reagan’s nephew, Joe Hill, complicated matters greatly. Played by Will Hochman, Joe will need to navigate the identity issues that come along with working undercover as Season 12 gets underway. Good thing we don’t have long to wait.
The premiere episode of “Blue Bloods” Season 12 is titled “Hate is Hate” and is set for October 1 on CBS at 10 p.m ET.
Thanks to IMDb, we have a rough idea of what the episode is going to entail. On top of the ongoing narrative concerning Joe Hill’s place in the Reagan family, the action will start with none of than Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan.
“Hate is Hate” reportedly finds him mixing it up with a psychic so that he can get to the bottom of a kid’s murder. Further, Reagan family patriarch Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) will butt heads with the New York City mayor over policy in the wake of an assassination attempt.
Of course, fans can count on some more involvement from the long-lost Reagan family black sheep Joe Hill.
“He obviously has a great chemistry and connection to our cast, and my anecdotal evidence is that the audience really liked what he brought to the show. He has a fresh relationship with the characters that they’ve been with for 11 years,” executive producer Kevin Wade told TV Insider in August.

Since 2013, “Blue Bloods” star Vanessa Ray has been playing the role of Eddie Janko. Ray started on the show as a late addition to the cast, and she has since earned her place at the Reagan family dinner table. It’s safe to say the Janko actor knows what it takes to make a compelling scene happen on “Blue Bloods.”
Last week, Vanessa Ray talked to PopCulture about a scene she did with her co-star, Lauren Patton. She said the scene came out excellent. Why? Well, help from TV icon and longtime “Blue Bloods” star Tom Selleck certainly didn’t hurt the situation.
“He lovingly sat, read through the scene with us, gave us different ideas and different things. Then Barrett was cool, and he let us go and stage the whole thing, block the whole scene without anybody else. So just the two of us got to do it. And then Tom was the one who edited that scene together. So I feel like this one scene in the first episode of Season 12 is like a masterpiece. It’s so fun,” said Ray.
