We’re slowly nearing the conclusion of “One Chicago’s” tenth season. Now, ahead of the show’s finale, “Chicago Fire” boss Derek Haas is hopeful that series alum Jesse Spencer, iconic for his role as Captain Matt Casey” will return before the season ends.

Of a potential Matt Casey return, the “Chicago Fire” showrunner shared with TVLine, “That would be amazing. That would be a coup for our show if we could talk Jesse into coming back.”

However, considering his following statement, “Chicago Fire” fans can likely look forward to seeing Jesse Spencer in the season finale.

“[S]tatus on [Spencer’s return] is all systems looking good. And yes, I talked to him last week so I’m very hopeful that that’s going to happen.”

During the franchise’s One Chicago Day, Haas provided further confirmation that “Chicago Fire” looks forward to a Jesse Spencer return. However, he was quick not to confirm too much. He shared during a press junket that he doesn’t want to “promise anything until cameras are rolling.”

That said, the “Chicago Fire” showrunner continued, “it is our great expectation that we will see both Casey and [his girlfriend] Brett in the season finale, because giant, big exciting things are going to be happening.”

Altogether, it seems that whether or not Jesse Spencer returns to “Chicago Fire,” there’s a lot to be excited about. In concluding his remarks, Haas said, “This will be the best finale ever, I’ll go ahead and say it.”

Jesse Spencer Speaks of Eventual Return to ‘Chicago Fire’

When Matt Casey actor Jesse Spencer said goodbye to “Chicago Fire” in October of last year during the series’ 200th episode, he left both fans and his onscreen girlfriend Sylvie Brett with a promise that his leave would only be temporary. As we know, Casey left for Oregon to tend to his late best friends’ sons until they got into college. And during Casey’s departure episode, we learn that that’s approximately three years away. However, as per Derek Haas’s statements above, and Jesse Spencer’s previous discussion of his role, there’s a very good chance Casey will make a much sooner return.

Following his character’s early season 10 departure, Spencer shared, “I think it was pretty organic that [Casey’s] leaving and he’s going for three years.”

However, he teased, “But is he? We don’t know. It’s been a long time coming when you know how these compadres have gone through life and death together.”

Of his own personal leave from “Chicago Fire,” Jesse Spencer admitted that saying goodbye was difficult.

“[It’s a] see you soon, kind of thing,” the Matt Casey actor explained. Of his departure, “It was bittersweet. But I really enjoyed it and we got some laughs out of it.”
