Chicago Med wasted no time ripping off the bandaid during the Season 7 premiere. There was no exposition or medical case to delay the conclusion to last season’s cliffhanger. Instead, we jumped right back into that painful moment when we knew Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) would be leaving the ED. At the start of the episode, she and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) packed up her car and said their goodbyes.

However, not everything about this moment was particularly innocent. Before leaving Chicago Med for a new hospital, Manning told Halstead that he needed to do whatever it takes to get his job back in the ED. As we remember from last season, our favorite ginger-haired doctor was fired after covering up for some missing drugs on Manning’s behalf.

The brief but somber moment between the exes demonstrated that their love for each other was still there. But sometimes, that’s just not enough to hold a relationship together.

“I’m gonna be okay,” Manning told her ex.

‘Chicago Med’ Introduces New Characters and Old Flames

With Manning’s advice in his ear, Halstead marched himself to Goodwin’s office where he worked up the nerve to ask for his job back. After some hesitation, Goodwin agreed, but not without a very risky condition. Halstead had to agree to be her spy and gain evidence against Dr. Matt Cooper (Michael Rady), who she believed was involved in some fraudulent behavior at the hospital. Knowing that the deal could ruin his relationship with the fellow doctor, Halstead agreed regardless, once again caught in a web of deception.

There is a beacon of light in all of the chaos for Halstead, though. Among the new doctors that we meet in the Chicago Med premiere is Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) who graduated from the same med school as Halstead. However, as we can tell from their coy and flirtatious remarks, they may have been more than just classmates.

‘Chicago Med’ Has Fans Seeing Double

Meanwhile, we have a whole slew of mind-boggling cases that prove that this season is going to be as chaotic, dramatic and cathartic as ever. While Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard) handles a snake bite patient, Drs. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) and Vanessa Taylor (Asjha Cooper) find themselves with identical twins who find it physically impossible to be different from one another.

When one twin comes in for severe abdominal pain, her sister demands to have the same treatments and procedures as the other, despite the fact that she isn’t exhibiting any symptoms herself. When the medical team insists on surgery for the twin in pain, the girls finally consent to the procedure.

However, as Archer soon found out, the girls had switched places, and the surgical team had the wrong patient on the table. Thankfully, the team had only just sliced into the skin before discovering the ruse. They were able to remove the correct twin’s ovary, and both girls then wore matching scars.
