Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek have had a rough go of things throughout season nine of “Chicago PD.” However, “One Chicago” fans will be excited to know that after all of the emotional struggles and turmoil of the season, Ruzek actor Patrick John Flueger has revealed that Burgess and his character will finally “end up together.”
Last month’s series of episodes were rough for Burgess and Ruzek, nicknamed “Burzek” by “Chicago PD” fans. The beginning of March saw the non-couple’s adopted daughter Makayla become drugged and kidnapped for ransom. And while they manage to locate her, their next battle puts them in a custody battle against Makayla’s biological uncle.
Burgess won the case and now has full legal custody of Makayla. But, the Ruzek actor revealed while these experiences bring him and Burgess closer together, it won’t be easy for them.
In speaking with Us Weekly, Patrick John Flueger teased “Chicago PD” fans, begging of Burgess and Ruzek, “Will they? Won’t they?”
Fortunately, he concluded, “Well, they will, but [they’re] not going to in the way that you think they’re going to. I think at the end of the day, they’ll end up together, but I don’t think it’s an easy road to get there.”
‘Chicago PD’s Marina Squerciati Provides Context for ‘Burzek’ Relationship
While “Chicago PD” star Patrick John Flueger has revealed that one of the series’ fan-favorite non-couples will finally come together, his costar, Marina Squerciati, provided further context for the onscreen duo’s relationship.
In speaking with the outlet about her role, she said, “I think [their relationship is] great.” Squerciati continued, “I was confused by it, because you don’t really see things like this on TV. And so in the beginning I remember being like, ‘Wait, they’re living together, but not sleeping together? What’s happening?'”
Unfortunately for “Chicago PD” fans, that seems to be the constant state of the Burgess and Ruzek storyline. Their frequent fallouts make for an interesting and ever-mystifying relationship, and it no doubt keeps us glued to the storyline.
Squerciati added that while the two characters struggle to find their way to each other, there is a constant romantic attraction.
Of Burgess and Ruzek, the “Chicago PD” star said, “It just doesn’t [happen], that sort of platonic love. But there is a sexuality to it. It’s not represented that much. And I love it. It’s really interesting to play.”
The latest episode of “Chicago PD” followed Burgess and Ruzek after a major blowup following a disagreement about how to navigate Makayla’s abduction. And again, the non-couple struggles to figure out how to proceed. To Parade, the actress said, “I feel like now either comes healing or separation.” She stressed that whether Burgess and Ruzek again call things off or not depends on how things would best proceed in regards to Makayla’s best interest.
To continue following the dramatic twists and turns of Burzek’s relationship, be sure to tune in to “Chicago PD” on Wednesdays on NBC, at 10 p.m. EST.
