On New Year’s Eve 2021, the world lost a once-in-a-generation icon in Betty White. The actress was so beloved that even though the Golden Girls star was 99 years old at the time of her death, it still felt untimely. Now, we’re faced with another reminder of the loss of Betty White, as her beachfront home in Carmel Valley, California has been listed for sale.

In the early 80s, Betty White and her husband, Allen Ludden, purchased the quarter-acre seaside property for a mere $170,000. They then went to work bringing heir dream home to life, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Pacific Ocean.

Sadly, White and Ludden didn’t have much time to enjoy their new home together, as Allen Ludden passed away shortly after its completion. Betty White, however, lived in the home from then on.

White loved the house that she built with her late husband so much that hoped to spend her final days there. Unfortunately, the at home care she required during the pandemic forced her to spend them in her second home in Los Angeles.

A far cry from the $170K Betty White spent on the property over 40 years ago, the home is now listed for sale with an asking price of almost $8 million.

Features of Betty White’s Beautiful Seaside Home

Betty White’s incredible home features a spectacular, unobstructed view of the ocean. The 3,600-square foot home includes four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms within its 3-story structure. Now, this might seem like a lot for one person. Betty White has always referred to Allen Ludden as her one true love, however, so the memories of building it together no doubt made the home irreplaceable for the actress.

The home, designed by architect Richard Hicks, is described in the listing as follows. “Infused with an effervescent energy, this three-story manor offers a parade of serene moments from outdoor decks, discrete spaces lush with blooms, and through generous windows that showcase the majesty of land meeting sea.”

Nicole Truszkowski, the real estate listing the home, says that it feels exactly as you’d expect. “The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen,” Truszkowski said. “It was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home.”

Despite being one of the most beloved actors in the world, Betty White thoroughly enjoyed her privacy. “Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favorite things to do,” Truszkowski continued. “She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends. She was a private person. Betty’s home in Carmel was her special sanctuary and it was one of her favorite places to recharge and rejuvenate.”
