Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio is unstoppable. He’s been breaking records throughout his 28 win streak on the game show. And as of today, he crossed a new milestone. He’s now the third person to ever bring in more than $1 million in cash winnings.

Amodio kept making trivia look easy on today’s episode of Jeopardy!. And after adding another $48,800 to his all-time earnings, he became a millionaire. Only two other players have crossed the million-dollar mark throughout the gameshow’s 38 years. The first was Ken Jennings. He won $2,520,700 in 2006. And the second was James Holzhauer, who yielded $2,462,216 in 2019.

“This was beyond my wildest dreams going in,” Amodio said on September 24th. “I knew it was a possibility, but I thought it was a very remote possibility, and to have it actually happen is unbelievable.”

Matt Amodio is Making History on ‘Jeopardy!’

Matt Amodio is on his way to becoming the greatest Jeopardy! player of all time. As of September 18th, he was in third place for the longest winning streak. And then today, he became the third-highest earner in the gameshow’s history.

With all Amodio’s press and mind-boggling wins, the two reigning win-streak champs, Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer, are noticing that he’s on their heels and ready to overthrow them. Amodio still has to make it through 46 more shows to take over Jennings’s number one spot. But he’s inching dangerously close to Holzhauer’s 32-day winning streak. As of today (September 24th), Amodio is only four games away from second place.

And both of the winners have mentioned the current Jeopardy! champ on social media. Jennings gave Amodio a congratulatory shoutout on Twitter. And Holzhauer had a little fun at Amodio’s expense. But don’t worry. It was all done in good spirits.

On September 20th, Holzhauer jumped on Twitter to playfully roast Matt Amodio.

“When you order something online vs. when it arrives,” wrote the second-place champion. In the Tweet, Holzhauer posted a side-by-side picture of him and Amodio. Holzhauer’s photo is flattering, and Amodio’s is a little goofy.

Once Jeopardy! noticed the hilarious Tweet, it reposted it to their official site captioning, “This is how you know you’ve made it, @AmodioMatt!”

And Matt Amodio wasted no time countering Holzhauer’s jab. On the same day, he reposted the pic along with his own roast.

“I thought these memes were supposed to have the more attractive person on the left,” he wrote.
