‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Reveals a ‘Makeup’ Snafu on Show in Hilarious Tweet

On Wednesday night, current Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio revealed a hilarious issue he had with his eye makeup that he applied before a recent episode.

Amodio went for 26 wins in a row tonight as he currently sits at third place on the game show’s all-time wins leaderboard. He moved into sole position of third place last week. The Yale graduate student now only has Jeopardy! legends James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings in front of him.

Slowly but surely, Amodio is creeping up on Holzhauer’s second-place finish with a 32-game win streak. The reigning champ is well on his way to second place, but will have to more than double that to break Jennings’ all-time record. The Jeopardy! GOAT’s 74-game win streak is still the record to beat… for now.

While Amodio has a long way to go to match that record, he’s right on par with both Jennings and Holzhauer on social media. The Jeopardy! icons are good friends who love to joke around online, and Amodio seems to be earning his place at the Twitter table as well. All three men frequently tweet funny thoughts, and even interact with each other. Recently, Holzhauer even poked fun at Amodio, and the current champ clapped back in jest.

Earlier tonight, Amodio made fun of himself in another hilarious Twitter post. He said prior to taping an episode, he applied makeup to his eyes. The results didn’t go as planned, according to his optometrist.

“I tried applying makeup to my eyes one time before Jeopardy!, and my optometrist said my cornea is now permanently scarred,” Matt Amodio amusingly tweeted.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Opens up About How ‘Tough’ the Day-to-Day Process Is During a Lengthy Win Streak

Another thing all three Jeopardy! champions have in common is they each know just how grueling the day-to-day process can be while on a long winning streak.

Amodio recently opened up about a little talked about portion of what a champion goes through on the game show. It’s not just answering a myriad of questions over and over each day. A large part of the challenge revolves around the physical side of simply having the energy to compete day in and day out.

As the reigning champion continues to make easy work of the other competitors, he shared one reason why he thinks there aren’t many long-term champions. In a recent interview with The Ringer, Amodio revealed his thoughts on the unique and “tough” process.

“Having to go for a full day, ride the energy all day with all that enthusiasm, and then knowing that you have to go to sleep early and then wake up early to be ready to do it all again—it’s tough,” Amodio explained to The Ringer. “I think that’s one of the reasons why you have so few long-term champions right there, where even if the game weren’t also changing underneath you with new questions, that physical aspect is really tough.”
