‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Takes Subtle Dig At His Controversial Play Style

by John Jamison

Matt Amodio’s “Jeopardy!” stock is rising day after day. The Ph.D. student has won 24 consecutive games and is approaching $1 million in total winnings. But remember a month ago when the now-legendary contestant came under fire for his controversial answering habits? It seems like ancient history. Today, however, he poked some fun at himself on Twitter for his use of “what’s” to begin every response he gives on the show.

We’re talking about a guy who claims to have watched “Jeopardy!” every single day of his life. So, keep that in mind going forward.

During an interview with the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science, Amodio tried to clear things up regarding his mindset.

“Yes, I have a strategy where I form all of my questions with a ‘what’s’ at the beginning – then, I can focus on the rest of the clue. Other people have been very upset about me being robotic instead of forming a question differently each time,” said Amodio.

Fast forward a month and some change, and hardly anyone is still criticizing Matt’s play style. Unless you count him, of course. He joked about it on Twitter recently.

“I found the simplest, most repeatable approach I could and went with it,” Amodio says in the video. The video, put together by “Jeopardy!,” cuts together a bunch of his now-iconic “what’s.” And the peculiar answering style seems to be catching on with fans.

“I like that you answer every question that way! It’s part of your charm,” one wrote on Twitter.

“Shouldn’t it be ‘What’s this guy think he is?'” another joked, referencing Amodio’s clear use of “who” in the original tweet.

“I think you should start answering all questions with ‘who’. Maybe that’ll make the people happier. Love watching you!” another added.

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Speaks Out About Working Conditions With Mike Richards

Alex Trebek passes away, to the dismay of “Jeopardy!” fans worldwide. The show spends a season rotating through guest hosts. One of the people responsible for naming the replacement finds himself in the permanent role. Said person has controversial remarks from his past surface. He is ousted. Enter former “Big Bang Theory” star, Mayim Bialik.

It’s quite the story. And in case you haven’t been following game show news, the ousted producer, guest host, and eventual replacement is Mike Richards. He was the executive producer responsible for helping the temporary hosts settle into their roles. That means he worked side by side with now-host Mayim Bialik.

“In his capacity as producer, I, of course, still had to work with him and speak with him and interact with him [when that report came out]. But that’s because I’m a head-down kind of person, meaning I had to continue to work in the capacity that I did until he was no longer the person literally in my ear,” Bialik told Glamour.
