‘Jeopardy!’ Host Ken Jennings Says Shout Out From Band Mentioned on Show Is a ‘Big Deal’

Ken Jennings has a truly amazing job. After capturing a record-breaking 74 Jeopardy! wins, he became a temporary host of the show and now spends his days helping others to enjoy his favorite game. But it doesn’t end there.

In addition to the simple fact that he’s no doubt living out his dreams, being the fan-favorite host of a near-daily airing game show that garners close to 10 million viewers per episode comes with a great many fringe benefits. One of those benefits is that, every now and then, you’ll catch the eye of a personal hero.

In a recent episode of Jeopardy! the $2000 “These Songs Really Move” puzzle pointed to the title of a song by The Breeders. It read, “The 1993 Breeders song about one of these projectiles makes a “crash” and a “splash.”

When none of the contestants were able to answer, Ken Jennings gave it himself. “I can hear the bass line now,” Jennings said. “That’s ‘Cannonball.'”

Seeing that their song appeared on the gameshow, The Breeders posted the clip to Twitter along with the caption, “The host of what TV quiz show could hear the ‘Cannonball’ bass line tonight…”

Well, apparently Ken Jennings is a big fan of alternative rock, because he replied, “You guys, this is a pretty big Deal for me.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Hope to See Ken Jennings in Permanent Role as Host

For decades, Jeopardy! was synonymous with its host, the legendary Alex Trebek. Sadly, Trebek passed in 2020 at the age of 80, leaving the hit game show without a leader. Rather than replace the long-time host with another right away, Jeopardy! producers tried something different.

Both Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik were given the role of host on Jeopardy!. They share the duties equally, taking turns at the host podium. Though the dual hosts have been successful thus far, the show’s passionate fans are hoping to see the return of a singular host in the near future.

To gauge fans’ feelings about their options, TV Insider conducted a poll, giving the option of Ken Jennings of Mayim Bialik as permanent Jeopardy! host. After almost 40,000 responses were given, the answer was clear. Fans overwhelmingly prefer Jennings to Bialik.

Ken Jennings received an astounding 28,885 votes, making up 70% of the responses. Meanwhile, Mayim Bialik received only 8,798 votes in her favor.

Jeopardy! producers have yet to make a public decision. As of now, however, the dual hosts are only scheduled to last until the end of Season 38, which wraps up this summer. Season 39 could see Ken Jennings step into the position of sole Jeopardy! host as early as this year, should the show’s producers choose to end the dual host era.
