“Jeopardy!” returned to TV screens around the United States on Monday night with Mayim Bialik taking her turn behind the lectern.
Bialik shared a picture from that first show and gave a shoutout to Ken Jennings, who will be the other host.
Take a look at what Bialik sent out on Twitter on Monday.
‘Jeopardy!’ Has Been Through Quite A Drama When It Comes To Show’s Hosts
If you haven’t been keeping up, Outsiders, with the “Jeopardy!” drama, then let’s offer a review. The legendary game show had been searching for new hosts after Alex Trebek died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
While the show looked for a new host, a series of guest hosts took turns guiding contestants. Guests hosts included Bialik, Jennings, Anderson Cooper, LeVar Burton, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and others. When “Jeopardy!” made the final decision on new hosts, it picked executive producer Mike Richards and Bialik. They set up to where Richards would handle the weekday show, and Bialik would do specials or a possible spin-off.
Richards, though, was forced to step aside after just one week. He’d made some offensive comments on a podcast that were widely shared on social media. That sent Sony Entertainment back to the drawing board. When it was all said and done, Richards even left his executive producer role.
Legendary Game Show Had To Do Damage Control After Bouncing Mike Richards
“Jeopardy!” went into damage control and named Bialik and Jennings as hosts for the rest of this season.
So, Outsiders, Bialik was taking her turn on Monday night. Jennings will appear when it is his time to host.
But all this activity has not been dismissed by many people. In fact, the game show has become the butt of jokes in the show business world.
Cedric the Entertainer, who hosted Sunday night’s Emmy awards in Los Angeles, had a quick joke.
In an article from Fox News, Cedric took aim at “Jeopardy!” in his monologue.
“Lock the doors, we’re not leaving until we find a new host for ‘Jeopardy!’” he joked about the quiz show’s firing of Richards. Maybe Cedric the Entertainer didn’t get the memo about Bialik and Jennings but don’t worry too much about it.
Matt Amodio will be present on the Monday night opener for Bialik.
Amodio, a 30-year-old Yale Ph.D. candidate, is on a historic winning run. His 23-game-win streak is third-longest in “Jeopardy!” history and his $825,801 total earnings are also the third-best all-time.
Want another tie-in to the host drama? Bialik will be Amodio’s sixth host during his time on the show. He competed for broadcaster Robin Roberts, actor LeVar Burton, journalist David Faber, sportscaster Joe Buck, and “Jeopardy!” permanent host for a week, Mike Richards.
