In the Law & Order universe, filling the shoes of Olivia Benson sounds like an insurmountable task. Danielle Mone Truitt, however, somehow managed to pull it off flawlessly. Though Agent Benson is still on Law & Order, she remains in the world of SVU, while her partner of more than a decade, Elliot Stabler, jumped to Organized Crime.

Danielle Mone Truitt plays the new partner of Chris Meloni’s Elliot Stabler, Sgt. Ayanna Bell. Despite the challenge, Truitt tackled the new role with confidence, gaining fans’ admiration along the way. Thanks to a few crossover episodes, Truitt has worked with the dynamic duo on multiple occasions, and calls it a great time.

“Oh my god, yes, they are funny,” Truitt said. “All I do is laugh at them. Like, they are so funny.”

That said, Danielle Mone Truitt’s primary co-star is Chris Meloni. Unsurprisingly, the Law & Order veteran welcomed the newcomer with open arms. “Thanks for embracing us newbies,” Truitt wrote in an Instagram post. “Chris, thanks for coming back! I wouldn’t have this job or opportunity if you would’ve said no!”

One scene Danielle Mone Truitt particularly enjoyed filming with Chris Meloni is in the 13th episode of Season 2. During the scene, Truitt’s character is angry with Meloni’s for his desire to go undercover.

“It was really cool to shoot,” Truitt said. “I have fun shooting with Chris a lot because we just like push each other to do our best work.”

Danielle Mone Truitt Talks Chris Meloni’s 61st Birthday Bash

While Danielle Mone Truitt describes the Law & Order set as enjoyable, a day at work can never come close to the fun of attending a disco-themed birthday party. Earlier this month, Chris Meloni invited his co-stars and closest friends to his 61st birthday party. And, of course, had no choice but to wear a glittery bodysuit to respect his chosen disco theme.

“My favorite part was his outfit,” Truitt said. “I loved his outfit. It was so funny and so cool, and I love that he like committed to the theme. Everybody was wondering like, ‘Is it a costume party?’ Nobody really knew if it was a costume party or if that was kind of just the theme. So I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to wear something that I would definitely wear in my real life, but it’s kind of like a nod to disco.'”

Until recently, the cast of Law & Order didn’t see much of each other outside of the set, thanks to the pandemic. Because of that, the birthday party was a welcome change. “We want to keep each other safe, so we haven’t been doing a lot of hanging out outside of work,” Truitt said. “So it was just nice to come to a space as ourselves, not as our characters, and let our hair down and have fun and get to know each other on a different level.”
