Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni Talk Reuniting For ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’
During an April 2021 interview with “The Law & Order SVU Podcast,” Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni spoke about what it was like to reunite for “Organized Crime.”
“After 10 years, people still had such a yearning for this character, Stabler, to come back,” Hargitay declares. Meloni previously departed from “SVU” in 2011. “I felt the reunion was honest and true and painful,” Meloni chimed in. Hargitay agreed with Meloni’s description of the reunion. “I think it’s what people are ready for now.”
Hargitay further explained that someone close to the show emailed her and let her know their thoughts about the two characters teaming up once again. “She wrote, ‘The episode is so good, but my favorite moments are when you two look at each other without saying anything.”
Meloni then shared, “12 years to work the craft with one person, you’re riding the same wave.”
As she was recalling her and Meloni’s first day back on the set, Hargitay said, “So the second we get back on the set together, it’s almost like there’s no other people. There’s no one else. It’s a historic day. Huge! All a testament to this guy.”
Meloni also spoke on “Today” about how his reunion with Hargitay was both easy and familiar. “It was seamless. It just fit right together from the moment I saw them. You know, no time had passed whatsoever. And it was a sweet feeling and it was very warm. It just felt great.”
In regards to future scenes with both Benson and Stabler, Meloni added, “You’re going to see a lot of Benson and Stable together.”
