One Law & Order: SVU star just riled up fans with an intense new Benson and Stabler picture. Law & Order: SVU starred Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson and Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler for years before Meloni left the show. Now, however, he’s back with Law & Order: Organized Crime. The two shows frequently crossover, and as they are headed into their new seasons, the stars are promising plenty of scenes between Benson and Stabler.
Both shows return tomorrow, Thursday, September 23rd, on NBC. Fans are buzzing with excitement.
“And right before the strike of 12 this happened. #BeamMeUp #CaptionThis #VeryCinematic,” Hargitay wrote, dropping a photo from an upcoming crossover episode.”
Many fans were quick to point out how the two reminded them of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
“This definitely giving me Mr & Mrs Smith vibes,” one fan noted. Another fan compared them to the American gothic painting.
Others had a bit more fun with the photo. One person said it looked like “Mom and dad watching you on your first date as a teen.”
Many fans want to see Stabler and Benson wind up together. After so many years, seeing the two spend time together again has a ton of fans incredibly excited for what’s to come.
Thankfully, we’re barely a day away until we get to see Benson and Stabler in action again.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Just Celebrated Its 22nd Anniversary
It has been just over 22 years since Law & Order: SVU premiered on September 20th, 1999. The show has somehow managed to change and persevere amongst a rapidly changing society and culture. For some perspective: many kids born around the time that Law & Order: SVU aired are now well into college. The show is one of the few shows where its fans are sometimes younger than the show itself.
Hargitay and Meloni both shared some celebratory selfies.
The show is also undergoing another major milestone this year. At some point during season 23 of Law & Order: SVU, the show will air its 500th episode. Showrunners have kept pretty tight-lipped, but want to be able to do something special.
Showrunner Warren Leight told Give Me My Remote more info about the episode in June.
“I would like at least part of the 500th to be [ours]…sometimes it’s nice to have it be your birthday party and not a group birthday party,” he told the publication. “It’s okay for people to come to the party, but it feels like 500 is an insane milestone. And so I would hope we have a moment to acknowledge it. Obviously, in the episode, we won’t say happy 500—but maybe I will look for a way to cheat that in.”
You can catch season 23 of Law & Order: SVU as well as the second season of Law & Order: Organized Crime starting tomorrow at 8/7 central on NBC.
