‘Magnum P.I.’ Adds Martin Martinez To Cast for Season 4

Two days before the season premiere, Magnum P.I. producers announced that the show added a recurring character.

Martin Martinez will portray Cade Jensen, according to Deadline. He’s a teenager who wants a job at La Mariana, the bar run by Magnum’s buddy, Rick. He’s described as a troubled teen-ager. TC, another Magnum buddy, eventually becomes a surrogate to Cade.

Before joining the cast of Magnum P.I., Martinez appeared on Never Have I Ever on Netflix. On that show, he portrayed Oliver Martinez. His acting resume also includes appearances on Marvel’s RunawaysChicago P.D.Station 19Shameless and The Fosters.

He’s also set for an appearance on Pachinko as Oliver. The series, based on a beloved novel, has yet to receive a premiere date, but it started production in the spring. It’ll be on Apple TV.

Magnum P.I. premieres Friday night with an episode entitled Island Vibes. Here’s what we know about what’s coming: Magnum still is trying to keep his relationship with Lia a secret while he handles his cases, solo. In one case, Magnum is trying to find a single mom who is being tracked by two different gangs. Higgins still is abroad with her boyfriend, who is with Doctors Without Borders.

Magnum P.I. Also Adds Another New Character to Cast

Martinez isn’t the only new addition to the Magnum P.I. cast. Chantal Thuy plays Lia, a Honolulu Police Department detective. She and Magnum didn’t want to go public with their relationship, although the two have been involved since Higgins left Hawaii. Viewers also will learn about another secret Lia is keeping.

Before joining Magnum P.I., Thuy played a shape shifter on Black Lightning. She’s also guest starred in Pretty Little Liars and Madam Secretary.

Magnum P.I. is a reimagining of the iconic series from the 1980s that starred Tom Selleck. Jay Hernandez plays Thomas Magnum, the former Navy SEAL turned private detective. Unlike the 80s series, Higgins is a woman portrayed by Perdita Weeks. There is chemistry between Magnum and Higgins, but they date other people. They both live at the estate owned by Robin Masters. Magnum’s new friends, Rick and TC, are former Marines. Rick owns the bar, while TC flies a helicopter and gives aerial tours of Hawaii.

CBS, after a season, moved Magnum P.I. from Mondays to Friday nights. And coincidentally, it serves as the lead-in to Blue Bloods, which stars Selleck as the New York police commissioner. Selleck likes to point out that Magnum P.I. never was cancelled while he was starring in the series. He said he grew tired of working 90 hour weeks, so he left the show. Without Selleck, the show couldn’t go on.

“God knows how many episodes we could’ve done, with the No. 1 show on the air,” Selleck said in 2017. Officially, he was 162 episodes.
