Following last night’s NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS crossover, it has been reported that the new spinoff’s TV ratings saw a considerable thanks to the episode.

TV Line reports that NCIS: Hawai’i drew in 5.9 million total viewers during the special crossover event. This is notably a 16% increase to a best-since-premiere audience. It also held in the demo with a 0.5. Meanwhile, the media outlet stated that NCIS dipped in the demo. However, the series had Monday’s largest audience.

According to IMDb, during the NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i crossover, agents Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) traveled to Hawai’i when they learned a key witness in one of their old cases has turned up there with crucial evidence.

Valderrama and NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the episode. “We have this amazing opportunity,” Lachey declared. “We’re going to do a crossover with the mothership.”

Valderrama also shared, “What was really exciting was to have both of our shows and our families kind of meet and somehow connect our universes together.”

In regards to having the NCIS teams work together, Lachey stated, “[My character] Tennant is reluctantly welcoming Torres, so that dynamic is going to be fun to see.”

Valderrama added, “Let’s just say that these two have got to work together at some point.”

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Vanessa Lachey Talks About What She Hopes Her Character will Normalize

While speaking to Deadline last fall, NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey discussed what she hopes her character, Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, will normalize people seeing women in this type of position in power.

“I can deal with being a mom and doing things like taking her to school and dealing with my ex-husband and taking down a multi-million dollar crime operation,” Lachey stated. “I want, not just little girls because I have two boys, all the littles and women, and men, and everyone to see her and know they can do that too.”

The NCIS: Hawai’i castmate also explained that she hopes people see her character lead the NCIS team with grace, compassion, and vulnerability. “For me, this is the perfect role. Because she’s human. She is vulnerable and has bad days. And she misses being in love. At the end of the day, we stomas just want a huge and compassion and friends.”

In regards to incorporating her own personality into her NCIS character, Lachey said. “When I come into my real world, I actually take some inspiration from Jane and bring her to Vanessa. And vice versa. I catch myself wondering, ‘I don’t know that Jane would do this? So let’s try to marry it.”

NCIS: Hawai’i is currently in its first season. Lachey stars alongside Tori Anderson, Yasmine Al-Bustami, and Noah Mills.
