Ree Drummond is about as honest as they come. During a recent interview, The Pioneer Woman explained how she hit “rock bottom” and began to focus on getting in shape.

Eating healthy and exercising — it’s a message that just about everybody needs to hear in one way or another. And for the Food Network star, that is no exception. Over the years, we have come to know Ree Drummond for all of her delicious recipes. But even she struggles from time to time with eating healthy foods and working on her body. She knows exactly what it’s like to cave in to her cravings, and not always want to work out.

Drummond has been an open book when it comes to just about every aspect of her life. And that hasn’t been any different with her fitness journey. She spoke to Entertainment Tonight and talked about how she recently hit “rock bottom” after sending her eldest son Bryce to college.

“I have a cooking show, I write cookbooks, I have a cooking website. I have a restaurant, a bakery. So you know, it just kept creeping up and in January of this year, we took my son Bryce to college,” she explained. “I tell this story, but I basically hit rock bottom eating chips and salsa one night. I went a little overboard, but I thought that night, ‘I am going to start tomorrow.'”

Ree Drummond’s Advice About Changing Your Outlook

After that low point, Drummond knew that she had to do something different. And that’s exactly what she did. She’s to the point now where she has lost 60 pounds.

“I am doing something different,” she told ET. “And I just started and I almost lost 60 pounds now.”

For so many people, the weight scale can be scary at first. But in time, The Pioneer Woman says that it helped her realize she was on the right path.

“The scale was sort of a gauge for me that I was heading in the right direction. And it was never about ‘I have to lose this amount.’ It’s really about how I feel. I feel great,” she said.

If you couldn’t already tell by her quotes, it sounds like Ree Drummond is not only happy with where she is, but she is also proud of how far she has come. She believes that her new healthy habits have completely changed her outlook. And she thinks it can do the same thing for others as well.

“It changes your whole outlook, just having the routine of exercise in your day and, you know, I still eat the foods that I cook my family. I still eat cake — I just eat a Rhode Island-sized piece instead of a Texas-sized piece!”
