Pat Sajak has been the host of Wheel of Fortune for a long time. He’s been with the series for so long that he’s the longest-running game show host of all time. So it would make sense that he knows Wheel’s gameplay inside and out. But there is one thing that Sajak doesn’t keep track of, and his daughter just learned about it today. And as she told her Instagram followers, she’s “still processing” the news.
Pat Sajak joined Wheel of Fortune back in 1981 when it was called America’s Game®. He has since earned three Emmy awards and a Hollywood Star during his four decades on the show. So naturally, Pat’s daughter, Maggie Sajak, thought her dad would be a Wheel of Fortune god by now. And when she found out that he still relies on those little notecards to give him the answers to the puzzles. She was shocked. And she posted about it on her Instagram page.
“Found out my dad doesn’t magically know the number of each letter in the puzzle off the top of his head,” she wrote. “Still processing. Head to @wheeloffortune’s Instagram for more behind-the-scenes secrets and a look at the @celebritywheeloffortune set!”
But Maggie’s followers think she should cut the gameshow host some slack.
“He’s only human!! Give him a break, Mags!” one person commented.
When it comes down to it, though, our dads can be heroes. We think they know everything. So Maggie’s confusion came from a place of love. And some of her followers understood that. As one fan put it, “Our dads are always magic for us.”
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak Makes a Hilarious Mistake and Tosses His Cards
After 40 years on Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak could probably host the show in his sleep. But everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and Sajak is no exception. He proved that during the September 22nd episode of Wheel when he couldn’t quite get his words out right. But thankfully, Sajak doesn’t take himself too seriously, so his snafu turned into a hilarious blunder.
As the show was cutting to a commercial break, Pat Sajak wanted to add a quick “congratulations” to the contestant who had an impressive lead over his opponents. But it seemed Pat was so impressed that he couldn’t make a sentence.
“He’s got $12,550. Nice going, Hunter. I’m glad for you,” the Wheel of Fortune host said.
“Thank you,” the contestant replied.
“We’ll be back, and uh, we’ll try a tipple… a tip..(laughs). Ah, who cares?!” Sajak hilariously said as he gave up and threw his show-card in the air.
