As the highly anticipated series 1883 wraps up the production of its first season, many are beginning to wonder just how expensive each episode is costing the Paramount network.

According to LA Times, 1883 and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s production is actually pricer than typical basic-cable shows. The media outlet reports that Sheridan’s series’ cost an average of $6 million to $8 million per episode. The first season of 1883 included additional costs to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks and was launched quickly. This actually caused expenses to double.

Sheridan also discussed his hopes for 1883 and Yellowstone making an appearance on Paramount+. “My sincere hope is that I deliver. I do feel that the model Chris [McCarthy] is building is the future. Since I’m the test dummy for it, I hope I survive the crash so to speak. And deliver something worthy of the gamble.”

Steven Cahall, senior equity analyst at Wells Fargo Securities, goes on to add that although Paramount+ has a variety of material, it’s got some competition against HBO Max, Disney+, and Netflix. “Carving out that brand value in the mind of the consumer, at a time when there’s a lot of competition out there, is their biggest challenge.”

1883 is now set to premiere on December 19, 2021, on Paramount+.  The series will reportedly follow the Dutton family on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of “untamed” America.

Who Will Star in the Upcoming Series ‘1883’?

Tim McGraw previously spoke about his involvement in the upcoming series 1883. “This is truly a dream job. Taylor [Sheridon] has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity.”

McGraw, who will play James Dutton in 1883, stated that the Duttons are “tremendous” characters, and it’s a thrill for him to be able to bring them to life. “As a kid growing up riding horses, you think about dream jobs like this. And I am just so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew.”

McGraw’s wife, Faith Hill, will be starring in 1883 as Margaret Dutton. She also described the role as being an opportunity of a lifetime. “The Duttons are a formidable family. And it’s an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor and his entire team.”

Along with Hill and McGraw, Sam Elliott has joined the 1883 cast as cowboy Shea Brennan. Billy Bob Thornton, who starred alongside McGraw in Friday Night Lights, is guest-starring in the upcoming series. Isabel May and LaMonica Garrett are also appearing in 1883.
