With her highly-anticipated series 1883 set to premiere on December 19th, country superstar Faith Hill is opening up about her experience on the show’s set.

While chatting with People, Hill shared details about the challenges she dealt with on the 1883 set over the course of four months. “There’s just so many layers of clothing,” Hill explained. “Sometimes you’re successful and sometimes you’re not.”

1883 follows the famous Yellowstone family, the Duttons, as they travel to the west through the Great Plains. Hill plays the role of Margaret Dutton, while her husband and fellow country singer, Tim McGraw plays James Dutton, who her character is married to. Starring alongside Hill and McGraw are Sam Elliott, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, and Marc Rissmann.

Hill also spoke to the media outlet about what it was like to film 1883 alongside McGraw. “We have made it a point not to work on our scenes together until we’re on set. It’s important that we react to one another naturally as characters. Not as husband and wife.”

Hill went on to add that she and her husband celebrated their 25th anniversary while filming 1883. “I was hauling a— in a carriage through a river,” Hill recalled. “That was our big celebration.”

‘1883’ Star Faith Hill Explains Why Actors are Drawn to Taylor Sheridan’s Work

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Faith Hill revealed why actors are so drawn to Yellowstone and 1883 creator Taylor Sheridan’s stories. “I think so many actors are drawn to Taylor’s writing because he is portraying the story in a way that was lived. I gained so much respect for cowboys.”

Her husband and 1883 co-star Tim McGraw also described the upcoming season as a journey. “To see my beautiful wife on horseback, firing guns, and having dirt all over r her face, I just sit in awe. She’s a strong woman, anyway.”

McGraw then shared what the 1883 creator told him while on set. “Taylor said early on to me, ‘Man, you’ll just get on that horse. You’re not scared of anything.’ I said, ‘I’m scared of one thing. She’s right over there.”

When asked about conditions on the 1883 set, McGraw said, “It’s super dusty and super hot. There’s now ay around it. At the same time, it’s like every kid’s fantasy to do something like this. To put your chaps on, your cowboy hat, and your gun holsters every day. Then you get on a horse and try to survive this journey.”

Sam Elliott, Hill and McGraw’s fellow 1883 co-star, went on to add the first month of filming was actually pretty brutal. It was 100 degrees and not easy.”
