Tim McGraw is wishing fans a “Happy Halloween from Montana!” as he sports a remarkably impressive beard for Yellowstone prequel, 1883.

If the world didn’t know it pre-1883, we know it now: Tim McGraw can grow one hell of a beard. There’s no face below his nose now, just grizzly bear. And it is glorious.

The proof comes via his latest Tweet, in which the country megastar and upcoming Yellowstone spinoff lead wishes followers a “Happy Halloween from Montana!” Behold:

“Just so ya know: The beard is for 1883,” McGraw clarifies in a follow-up Tweet. Oh, we know, Tim. We know.

If you’re catching up, Tim McGraw is giving life to the lead role of James Dutton for 1883. Real-life-wife Faith Hill is in as Margaret Dutton, as well. The two are 19th-century ancestors of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton (Yellowstone proper), and we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds – mostly because the writing is on the wall for a truly phenomenal period piece.

From the casting of Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton, to gathering a whole team of historians for period accuracyYellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is going all-in to ensure 1883 is everything it can be. Tim McGraw seems as excited as us Yellowstone fans for the show, too. In a previous Tweet, the icon gave followers their best look yet at the prequel behind-the-scenes.

Tim McGraw is as Excited as Fans for ‘1883’

“Hanging out in 1883” McGraw captioned his tweet. Within, he shows off multiple wagon camps set up across a wide-open prairie. Lanterns, trunks, and wooden chairs pepper the set, alongside wagons converting into tents. All in all, 1883 absolutely looks like everything we’re hoping for. And over on his Instagram, the country legend spilled the beans on how truly excited he is to be a part of the Yellowstone universe.

“Hey guys, so as a lot of you probably heard, we’re on to a new project and we’re pretty excited about it. Faith and I get to star alongside Sam Elliot, I mean goodness gracious, for the new Yellowstone prequel called 1883,” McGraw began.

“It’s going to be a fantastic family Saga about the original Duttons and their journey to Montana. And how they found the ranch up there. It’s written by Taylor Sheridan of Course, who [writes] Yellowstone and a bunch of other great stuff.”

Tim McGraw says Sheridan is “…One of the most special writers I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading to or from,” which is high praise, indeed. He adds that he and wife Faith Hill “couldn’t be more excited.”

1883 hits Paramount Network/Paramount+ come December 19, 2021!
