‘1883’: Who is LaMonica Garrett, Set to Join ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel

by John Jamison

Today’s “1883” bombshell was jam-packed with information about the upcoming “Yellowstone” prequel. One of the biggest reveals was the addition of LaMonica Garrett to the show’s cast.

Fans were delighted to learn that country power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill would be joining “1883.” They are doing so as Dutton family ancestors. Of course, in the prequel’s timeline, they are enterprising pioneers headed to Montana.

Joining them on that journey is a Sam Elliott character named Shea Brennan. He will reportedly be a Pinkerton agent. His character will lead a wagon train column on the American frontier.

Enter LaMonica Garrett.

Per Deadline, he will play Elliott’s right-hand man. There is no word yet on what his character’s name will be. But rest assured, if he’s by Elliott’s side, Garrett will factor heavily into the action of “1883” Season 1.

Fans may recognize LaMonica Garrett from his recent work as Casey on the TV Series “Deliah.” He is currently working on “The Terminal List” as Commander Bill Cox, though that won’t be released until 2022.

Previously, he appeared on shows such as “Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” and “The Last Ship.” One of his more recognizable roles was as Mike Ritter on the Kiefer Sutherland-led “Designated Survivor.”

Announced as a new cast member alongside LaMonica Garrett was Isabel May. She joins as “1883” as the daughter of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Dutton family characters.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Call ‘1883’ Roles ‘Dream’ Jobs

The country superstars are no strangers to the big screen. Fans may remember Faith Hill’s role as Sarah Sunderson in “The Stepford Wives.” Tim McGraw has had a more prolific acting career. He appeared recently in “Tomorrowland.” Fans will also remember him well from “Friday Night Lights” and “The Blind Side.”

But now, the couple is set to star in what has the potential to be a major hit. Both of them are beyond excited to be involved in something as anticipated as “1883.”

“This is truly a dream job. [Taylor Sheridan] has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity. The Duttons are tremendous characters and it’s so thrilling to be able to bring them to life,” McGraw said in an August statement, per Variety.

And Faith Hill was equally effusive in her praise of the “Yellowstone” creator and the worlds he’s bringing to life.

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime. The Duttons are a formidable family and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor and his entire team,” Hill said in a statement, per Variety.

With the cast set, all “Yellowstone” fans have to do is wait for the December premiere of “1883.”
