Golden Globes 2021: ‘Yellowstone’ Gets Snubbed in All Categories…Again

by Jon D. B.

After a remarkable 3rd season and becoming the #1 drama on cable television, Yellowstone is still being snubbed by the Golden Globes.

It’s awards season again for television, and Paramount’s smash hit Yellowstone has once again been left out of all Golden Globe nominations. The institution’s reveal of their full 2021 nominations has fans up in arms, too. For our part, it seems hard to imagine some of the nominees – such as Netflix’s Emily in Paris, being worthy of nomination, but not Yellowstone. Different strokes, we suppose.

Indeed, Yellowstone and all production crew & actors have been left out of the 2021 Golden Globe nominations. That means no “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama” for Beth Dutton’s Kelly Reilly, which she felt a shoo-in for. It also means no “Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama” for Kevin Costner or Cole Hauser, either. Criminal, this feels. Criminal!

Yellowstone did, however, face stiff competition. The following television shows are 2021 nominees for “Best Television Series Drama”:

  • The Crown
  • Lovecraft Country
  • The Mandalorian
  • Ozark
  • Ratched

Sure seems easy to knock one of these off and replace it with the much-deserving Yellowstone, eh? We know that, just like all our fellow outsiders, we’re all biased toward this show – but it is truly remarkable television. It’s a TV drama shot on a Hollywood scale with Hollywood-level production value, scripting, directing, performances, and more.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Shocked at Continuous Golden Globes Snubs

Hopefully 2022 will be the year Yellowstone receives its due with the Golden Globes after Season 4. Until then, however, fans won’t be letting this go anytime soon.

Fan Sinead on Twitter says: “Emily in Paris was nominated for a golden globe and Yellowstone was not. Hm.”

Agreed, Sinead. Agreed. Moreover, fellow fan Errin M. adds that The Golden Globes “snubbed Yellowstone and I’m SHOCKED. Beth will come for you!”

Whether her four crazy-esque emojis imply that she is, in fact, not shocked at all – or is truly shocked by this snub, is up for debate. What we do know, though, is that if Beth Dutton were real, she absolutely would be coming for the Hollywood Foreign Press. Hard.

In addition, Yellowstone fan Brittany Croxford is demanding answers. “Golden Globes, please tell me how Yellowstone hasn’t been nominated?!” she starts off. “You pick the same shows every year for awards! Yet there are better shows out there and the reviews and ratings prove it. Diversify more.”

Croxford goes in swinging, but she also has a point. As we touched upon, Yellowstone is cable television’s #1 drama in ratings as of Season 3. As of Season 2, the show was the #2 drama, only behind AMC’s juggernaut of pop culture, The Walking Dead.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Comments are pouring in from Yellowstone fans on Twitter – each more perplexed than the last. “@Goldenglobes Congrats to all the nominees, but Kelly Reilly was snubbed. She deserves all the awards for Beth Dutton,” writes another fan. Couldn’t agree more.

Will Yellowstone See Recognition at SAG Awards?

This tweet from passionate Yellowstone fan Pamela Russell, however, sheds more light on the situation. She notes Today Show host Carson Daly’s objection with The Golden Globes snubbing Yellowstone, which shows major trades are shocked at their absence from nominations, as well – and not just fans.

“I agree with Carson Daly …. Yellowstone should have made the nominations this morning,” Russell says of the mention. “Hopefully they’re recognized at the SAG awards,” she concludes.

Is it possible Yellowstone will come in strong with nominations for the SAG awards, instead? The SAG Awards, or Screen Actors Guild Awards, are given by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. While these awards only focus on acting performances, it would still be much-deserved recognition for Yellowstone. Especially for stars Kelly Reilly, Kevin Costner, Cole Hauser, and others, who bring tremendous, undeniable talent to the show.

We’ll find out February 4th, as the SAG awards are to announce their nominees on this date.
