Few leading men do rugged like Kevin Costner. Now, the iconic Yellowstone actor wants to know if fans think he should grow his beard out again.
Have you found yourself watching Yellowstone and thinking “the only thing that could make John Dutton more ruggedly handsome is a thick beard?” Us too.
Thankfully, the man behind JD agrees. Kevin Costner is doing Throwback Thursday right today by hitting followers with an old school photo of himself all beardy Mc’Handsomey. The look comes courtesy of a promo shot for Costner’s role in History Channel’s Hatfields & McCoys miniseries special.
“#TBT to my Hatfields & McCoys days…” the Yellowstone legend states on Twitter. “I might just have to grow my beard out again! Think I should?”
Outsider.com speaks for everyone, surely, when we say: YES. Clearly.
Bring Us the Beard, Kevin Costner
For those unfamiliar with the series this headshot comes from, History.com describes the miniseries as “the true American story of a legendary family feud.” As famous as any other Western epic, Hatfields & McCoys is a story “that spanned decades and nearly launched a war between Kentucky and West Virginia.”
The three-part 2012 miniseries holds up to this day, especially where the facial hair quotient is concerned. Showcasing an all-star cast, Kevin Costner leads as Devil Anse Hatfield – against rival Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton). The series “chronicles a clash of clans that inspired passion, vengeance, courage, sacrifice, crimes and accusations, while forever transforming the two families and the region they lived in.”
Interestingly, the story begins with Costner & Paxton’s characters as close friends and comrades. That is, however, until the end of the Civil War. From there, they return to their neighboring homesteads—Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky. Increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments proceed that soon “explode into all-out warfare between their families.”
In addition to looking fiercely gruff, Kevin Costner also took home an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for the show. In total, Hatfields & McCoys took home an impressive five Emmys.
Now all we need is for Costner to bring the beard back for John Dutton on Yellowstone. While Season 4 has wrapped filming, it’s not too late to bring the beard for the inevitable Season 5.
