‘Yellowstone’ Stallion Comes With An Impressive Reputation

Metallic Cat’s owners won the rights to have the horse written into the popular series during a charity auction. All proceeds from the event go to NCHA Charities Foundation.
In the December 26 ninth episode of Yellowstone’s fourth season, the Yellowstone Ranch becomes part owners of Metallic Cat. According to the episode, the Dutton’s Yellowstone Ranch become co-owners of the impressive stallion along with the Texas Rocking P Ranch. This follows the real legacy of Metallic Cat as Rocking P Ranch is in fact the owner of the horse.
Rocking P Ranch’s Robert Patton Jr. purchased the stallion in the fall of 2017 for a reported $14 million. This reportedly makes the sale of Metallic Cat one of the most expensive in cutting horse history.
The appearance of Metallic Cat in the recent Yellowstone episode is a perfect nod to what the popular series has been about since its 2018 premiere; bringing the ranching and cowboy way of life into mainstream pop culture.
Additionally, the Red Roan stallion is the offspring of some impressive stock. The stallion sires from High Brow Cat who was born in 2005. Metallic Cat and his rider Beau Galyean won many major accolades during his career as a showhorse. In 2008 the stallion won the NCHA Open Futurity Championship. In 2009 Metallic Cat was named the NCHA Horse of the Year.
Metallic Cat has since retired to a breeding ranch where he has already sired some impressive offspring. The stallion has delivered more than $40 million worth of offspring earnings as of this year. This puts Metallic Cat’s average yearly earnings at about $7.3 million.
