‘Yellowstone’: Bret Michaels Heaps Praise on Kevin Costner After Newest Episode

Poison frontman, producer and actor Bret Michaels is apparently a Yellowstone fan. And he had some nice words for star Kevin Costner after Sunday’s episode.

“Kevin,” Michaels tweeted Sunday night. “Just wanted to say congratulations on all your successes & continued success on all levels. You rock the screen!” Then he included a picture of himself and Costner posing for the cameras at a public event.

In Latest Episode of Yellowstone, John Dutton Opens Up

In Sunday’s episode of Yellowstone, Costner, who plays Dutton family patriarch John Dutton, got plenty of screen time. We saw Dutton having a heart-to-heart with Beth (Kelly Reilly). We saw him talking business with Rip (Cole Hauser). And we saw him facing down protesters with Kayce (Luke Grimes), then meditating on the fate of our planet with Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo).

The scenes with Beth showed different sides of Dutton – both the firm patriarch, demanding to know what Beth was plotting regarding Market Equities, and the contemplative, sensitive rancher, opening up about his loneliness and his love of the land. Perhaps Dutton is learning to lean a little more on his kids than he did in their youth, when he was a stern, distant presence who couldn’t make up for the loss of their mother Evelyn (Gretchen Mol).

The scenes with Summer, by comparison, revealed both the unrepentant rancher – as when he chided the protesters for thinking that growing quinoa was less destructive than cattle ranching – and the closet environmentalist. Dutton predicted that the day will come when this planet “sheds us like dead skin,” and he acknowledged to Summer that it’s impossible to hide from the changes Earth is currently undergoing.

Hit Paramount Network Show Is Undisputed Success

Meanwhile, Costner, who also executive produces Yellowstone, has to be happy about the show’s epic success. Yellowstone was the most-watched drama on cable last season. And this season, the show broke its previous ratings records with a massive season-premiere audience of 8 million viewers, not to mention achieving 2021 demo highs across TV shows.

In fact, the Season 4 premiere of Yellowstone was the most-watched cable series telecast since a 2018 episode of The Walking Dead on AMC. The hit Paramount Network series, which was co-created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, has really ballooned in popularity since its launch (which drew a healthy audience comprised in large part of Costner fans).

As Michaels tweeted, Costner has a lot to be thankful for right now, including his costars. Will the battle-scarred Dutton live to see the end of Season 4? Costner’s not dropping any spoilers, so you’ll just have to watch to find out. Catch Yellowstone Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on the Paramount Network.
