Caroline Warner actress Jacki Weaver has joined the Apple TV+ dramedy “Hello Tomorrow!” which raises questions about her “Yellowstone” character’s fate.
The actress will join the cast of “Hello Tomorrow!” alongside Billy Crudup, Hank Azaria, Haneefah Wood, Alison Pill, Nick Podany and Dewshane Williams, per Variety. She has accepted the role of Barbara Billings. Billings is mother to Crudup’s Jack, a salesman in a retro-future world who’s hawking lunar timeshares. Jack is relentlessly optimistic but at risk of getting lost in the dream that sustains him. His mother is both caustic and manipulative, a foil to her son’s inspirational good cheer.
Weaver has received two Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations in her career, for 2010’s “Animal Kingdom” and 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook.” She joined the cast of “Yellowstone” in Season 4. And she’s already received rave reviews from her castmates.
Does New Role Bode Ill for Weaver’s ‘Yellowstone’ Character?
On “Yellowstone,” we’ve already met Market Equities CEO Warner, who blows into town determined to salvage the hedge fund’s airport plans by greasing the palms of anyone who stands in her way. Her overarching plan? “I cannot wait to pave this place over,” she mutters as she walks away from a meeting with Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham).
Warner’s preference is to appeal to greed rather than fear. Which suggests she may not mastermind any violent attacks this season. But there’s no question John Dutton (Kevin Costner) will want to be rid of her and her designs on his land as soon as possible.
Will Warner leave the valley of her own volition? Not likely. She is a woman used to getting her way. Her opening scene – in which she tells the company attorney he should set his watch by her arrival and departure, not the other way around – made that clear.
Whether Warner leaves the valley reluctantly or post-mortem is another question. But it looks likely that she will leave. Not necessarily because of Weaver’s casting; other “Yellowstone” stars have filmed movies and other TV shows around their “Yellowstone” schedules. But because no villain has ever lasted more than a season against John Dutton.
