Fans were shocked by an unexpected death as the fourth season of the popular modern western series Yellowstone came to an end last Sunday.
It was a shocking moment as Jamie kills his biological father, Garrett Randall, during the season four wrap-up.
However, some eagle-eyed Yellowstone fans have spotted one major plothole in this storyline.
Last Sunday, fans learned that it wasn’t Jamie Dutton, per se, that was behind the assassination attempts on John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his children at the end of season three.
Now, Jamie may not have been the leader of the attack.
However, the adopted Dutton family member did have a major connection to the person who did, as he soon learns it was his biological father who plotted against the Yellowstone family.
This, of course, came to an explosive end as Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) blackmails her adoptive brother, Jamie (Wes Bentley) into taking action after learning Jamie had been aware of the violent plot.
Jamie Faces Three Options
The way Beth sees it, Jamie has three options. One, get arrested along with Garrett for the attacks; two, wait for Rip (Cole Hauser) to find out the truth – this will certainly not end well; or three, kill Garrett himself.
Jamie, begging Beth to not tell the rest of the family, says he will take care of Garrett.
This is where some fans began to see the Yellowstone season four storyline begin to unravel.
After an emotional moment, Jamie Dutton murders his father (Will Patton).
He then takes Garrett to Yellowstone’s “train station,” to dispose of the body.
Yellowstone fans know exactly what the “train station” is…a roadside area in which the Dutton clan “get rid” of the bodies of their enemies.
Beth follows the gubernatorial hopeful as he gets rid of the body. Beth’s goal is to get photos of Jamie’s crime for blackmail purposes.
This entire storyline, however, seems entirely unbelievable to some Yellowstone fans. Many have pointed out that they don’t think either Jamie or Beth knew about the “train station.”
“How would Jamie or Beth know about the Train Station?” asks one Yellowstone fan after the finale.
The fan notes that it makes sense that they didn’t know as Jamie and Beth both serve a purpose to John Dutton. He’d likely want to keep the two in the dark for specific reasons.
“I’d imagine John would want plausible deniability for both his lawyer & his sword,” the fan notes.
Does A Former ‘Yellowstone’ Plot Complicate the Finale?
Another fan brings up a past storyline noting that if Jamie had known about the “train station” we would have seen it earlier.
“Jamie strangled a reporter with his bare hands then set her off in the kayak,” the fan notes.
“If Jamie knew about the train station, it might have been better to float the kayak and then dump the body at the train station,” the fan explains.
In addition to the fact the two Yellowstone players knew about this particular location, other fans noted another hole in the finale’s plot: how did Beth know when to photograph Jamie for the blackmail she gave to John Dutton?
“How did Beth know when to get to the train station at the exact time Jamie was dumping the body of his father and not be seen,” one fan asks.
“She had to drive there but Jamie didn’t see her car?” the comment continues. “Beth needs a better storyline.”
