No doubt about it, Walker (Ryan Bingham) has been trouble on “Yellowstone.” He’s clearly got mixed feelings about the Dutton Ranch, which he ditched once and only rejoined on the threat of death. And as if that weren’t bad enough, he came between fan-favorite sweethearts Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) too many times.
Granted, Walker took on the Dutton Ranch brand in Season 3, which is either a gesture of loyalty or an objectifying tag not unlike the brand on cattle, depending on how you look at it. But was his heart really in it?
Now “Yellowstone” fans are predicting Walker will become a major problem in Season 4. On Reddit, they recently debated whether past is prologue with Walker.
‘Yellowstone’ Fans See Trouble on the Horizon
One fan kicked the discussion off with a post wondering what Walker was after with all his questions to Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) about the “train station.” That’s Dutton Ranch code for killing off problems and dumping their bodies in an unincorporated area away from the ranch.
“I just finished binge watching seasons 1-3,” the fan posted. “After Lloyd and Rip drag Walker back to Yellowstone and he helps get rid of the two bodies at the ‘train station’… anyone else find it ominous all the questions Walker was asking Lloyd about the ‘train station?’”
Some fans saw the portents. Others didn’t, arguing that sometimes questions are just questions.
“Ominous? No,” another fan replied. “Did seem like he might be doing a bit of extra fishing though. Maybe.”
Is Walker Truly a Sketchy Character?
Another fan pointed out how sketchy Walker comes across to some viewers. While he’s a musician, Walker is definitely the type who plays dimly-lit dive bars. And it’s not clear what he did to land in the prison that Rip picked him up from.
“Yes! I think that is going to be a problem in S4,” another fan chimed in. “Walker is a sketchy dude. I think he was surreptitiously gaining info from Lloyd to trade with authorities or figure a way out of the Yellowstone. I also think this is why, as people speculate on here, that Rip belts Lloyd and says ‘the ranch comes first.’ That Rip sees Lloyd’s indiscretion in singing to Walker as a threat to the ranch.”
That “Yellowstone” fan added that as far as creepiness goes, Walker is only outdone by Garrett Randall (Will Patton), Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) biological father. But series co-creator Taylor Sheridan may yet fill in Walker’s murky backstory.
In the meantime, Walker’s blend of seediness and idiosyncratic aloofness from the rest of the ranch hands clearly gives some “Yellowstone” fans the heebie-jeebies. And maybe they’re right about Walker. We’ll find out when Season 4 premieres on Sunday, Nov. 7.
