“Yellowstone” finished off its season with a resounding bang. A massive crew of fans gathered to watch how season four of the popular drama starring Kevin Costner would end.

Massive Audience for ‘Yellowstone’ Season 4 Finale

As it turns out, “Yellowstone” had a total of 10.3 million total viewers, according to a recent press release. That includes more than nine million viewers on Paramount Network alone. The show is up 81% in viewers in comparison to the season three finale.

It continues to blow away the competition in terms of ratings and viewership. Not only is it a new record for the show, but it’s also the best telecast since 2017.

It is the most-watched telecast on cable since “The Walking Dead” season three premiere in October 2017. The growing numbers may be due to many efforts to grow the “Yellowstone” audience. This has been done by expanding the popular Yellowstone universe including new spinoff series starring Sam Elliott, “1883.” Audiences can also watch the Taylor Sheridan-created series starring Jeremy Renner on Paramount+, “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Not only do “Yellowstone” fans show up, but they come to talk, too. It is the most social show on Sunday nights. This season four finale is the most social telecast of the show too. It surpassed the previous season finale extensively.

“’Yellowstone’ continues to shatter records with more than 11 million viewers tuning into the season finale, proving we’ve hit a cultural nerve – from the center of the country to each of the coasts – and still have lots of room to grow on linear,” said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, ViacomCBS Media Networks regarding this milestone.

Despite ending the fourth season, “Yellowstone” continues to grow in audience and expand its reach to new eager viewers.

‘1883’ Premiere Ratings Absolutely Crushed

Seeing as the team behind “Yellowstone” is looking to grow the universe, “1883” has been the best example of that so far. The prequel series first aired on Sunday, December 19. The show is the most-watched original series ever to premiere on Paramount+. The show had a massive 4.9 million viewers on the network, which actually makes it the biggest new premiere on TV since 2015. There was a total of 6.4 million viewers across all platforms.

As always, it can be a bit of a gamble to do any kind of prequel, sequel, or spin-off. The proof of this gamble-gone-right is in the numbers.

“The day 1 streaming numbers coupled with the results of the linear sampling effort, and social response from our audience show the tremendous promise for this series. We look forward to continuing on this epic journey with our subscribers,” said Chief Programming Officer for ViacomCBS Streaming Tanya Giles.

Not only that, but “1883” also surpassed “Yellowstone” in one way as well. It beat out the first season “Yellowstone” premiere in terms of demographics.
