In a show full of interesting characters, Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton stands out as one of the most intriguing “Yellowstone” figures.
“Yellowstone” fans love the Jamie character because he brings a lot of mystery to the table. We don’t know a lot about his checkered past but we get a little more information with each season. Last season, we learn that Jamie was adopted by the Dutton family as an infant.
Jamie seeks and finds his biological father, Garrett Randall, who reveals even more about his son’s past. Randall kills Jamie’s drug-addicted mother when he finds his infant son sucking on a crack pipe as if it were a baby bottle. He believed the only way to give Jamie a good life was for him to be raised by another family. Jamie is adopted by the Duttons, given the Dutton name, and raised to be a Dutton. That all comes crashing down once he discovers his birth certificate. Now conflicted, Jamie’s storyline could go in a number of different directions.
We don’t know much about Jamie’s mother, other than she was apparently a drug addict. We also know she had some sort of relationship with John Dutton. “Yellowstone” fans have plenty of theories regarding just who Jamie’s mother is and why it is such a secret. Fans discuss their theories in a recent Reddit thread.
“John also told Jamie that he begged Jamie’s birth mother not to marry Garrett Randall because John knew what kind of man Garrett was,” a “Yellowstone” fan writes. “John Dutton clearly was close to Jamie’s birth mother well before Jamie was born. We also don’t know Jamie’s mother’s maiden name. I propose that Jamie’s mother’s maiden name was Dutton. Phyllis Mary Randall was Phyllis Mary Dutton, John’s sister.”
‘Yellowstone’ Fan Speculate on Jamie Dutton’s Lineage
Numerous Redditors say they can definitely buy into the story and it would certainly make for a “Yellowstone” shocker. As every “Yellowstone” fan knows — expect the unexpected.
“I think you hit the nail on the head,” another Reddit user proclaims. “A big reveal that’s simple enough for any degree of watcher to pick up on.”
“I like the theory,” another “Yellowstone” fan says. “But I think if Garrett Randall would have killed a Dutton, disowned or not, they would have dropped him off at the train station.”
Not everyone, however, buys into the wild theory.
“The only problem is I can’t imagine if a man murdered John Dutton’s sister he would still be living,” a Redditor notes.
We don’t if the subject of Jamie’s birth mother will come into play during the fourth “Yellowstone” season. It would certainly lead to some shocking moments in the show — and we all know “Yellowstone is about the shock factor.
We’ll get our next dose of “Yellowstone” tomorrow (Sunday) with episode four.
