Is he…. Smiling!? The latest behind-the-scenes shots from Yellowstone‘s Brecken Merrill showcase the Kayce & Monica Dutton we need to see far more of.
Poor Kayce Dutton. If he’s not being shot at, then he’s grappling with the deep emotional scarring of his family. Luke Grimes gives the best performance(s) of his career as the prodigal Dutton son, but it is absolutely fueled by intense drama. And let’s not forget the unimaginable grief, prejudice, and danger of Kelsey Asbille’s Monica Dutton. As if any Yellowstone fan could.
Thankfully, this Sunday brings a different side of these two courtesy of the latest behind-the-scenes showcase. As usual, it comes via Yellowstone‘s youngest star, Brecken Merrill, who plays their precious son, Tate Dutton.
“It’s #yellowstonetv Sunday! The premiere is only 3 weeks away,” Merrill begins on his official Instagram Sunday. “Here are a few random #bts pics.”
“We all know the bunkhouse boys are funny, but #lukegrimes and #kelseyasbille are really funny too – you just don’t get to see it in their characters,” Brecken continues of his on-screen parents. Isn’t that the truth!
“I can’t remember why we were laughing in the first pics, but we had a serious case of the giggles,” he cites. It looks as if these three absolutely love their time on-set together. And over the course of four years, they’ve surely gotten quite close.
‘Yellowstone’s Brecken Merrill Blends His Real & TV Families On-Set
Of the next snapshots, Brecken says “The river pics are Kelsey and me cracking jokes as we stood half-naked in the cold rain. Then there was that time I ended up in jail and had to make my one call…”
And finally, “The last pics are just sweet pics of my tv family, and pics of my real family when they came to visit on set,” Merrill concludes.
By all accounts, the little guy seems to love his life both at work and at home. Being able to blend the two – especially on a set as incredible as Yellowstone‘s – has to be a really fantastic way to grow up. And thanks to the lovely time young Brecken has had over the years, we fans are treated to some of the only in-depth behind-the-scenes shots we get from the Modern Western.
Merrill has been on his BTS kick for a good two months now, too. With just three weeks to go before Yellowstone Season 4 hits, that’s just three more Sunday sets! The tradeoff for new episodes, however, will be more than worth it.
Yellowstone Season 4 hits November 7 with a two-episode premiere only on Paramount Network/Paramount+. As always, stick with your fellow Outsiders for all the latest from our favorite show.
