Cole Hauser is about to lead his own action movie. Yellowstone’s Rip Wheeler is set to star with Mel Gibson in the thriller from the director of ‘Crank’.
Yellowstone fans need no introduction for Cole Hauser. The star plays Rip Wheeler, television’s best anti-hero and fiercely loyal rancher. For Hauser, however, it’s time to switch A-list co-stars. Soon, Hauser will say his goodbyes to Kevin Costner – so he can star in an action film with Mel Gibson.
Hauser isn’t receiving second billing, either. The project, from director Mark Neveldine, has Hauser headlining. Mel Gibson will play a supporting role for the resurging star. If that’s not a feather in Rip’s cap, we don’t know what is.
Neveldine co-directed both the well-received Crank, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance.
Cole Hauser headlines PANAMA action thriller
According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, the new thriller – titled PANAMA – begins filming in Puerto Rico this December.
In a script by Daniel Adams and William R. Barber, Hauser becomes a “rugged and decorated ex-marine who is sent undercover by his former commander (Mel Gibson).”
Together, they execute a high-stakes deal with untrustworthy adversaries.
Although modern audiences know Hauser as Rip on Yellowstone, his Hollywood career is a long one. He and Gibson have even worked together before. Gibson’s Icon Productions produced Paparazzi in 2004, which starred Hauser alongside him.
Aside from their previous film together, Hauser’s own resume is impressive. He has starred in School Ties, Dazed and Confused, and Good Will Hunting. Other hits, such as 2 Fast 2 Furious, Tears of the Sun, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Transcendence, also round out Hauser’s Hollywood rapport.
A release date for PANAMA has yet to surface.
Until then, fans can look forward to more of Cole Hauser in Season 4 of Yellowstone. S4 hits soon in 2021.
