Part of what makes “Yellowstone” such an incredible show is the performances by stars such as Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, and Cole Hauser.

“Yellowstone” star Jefferson White really appreciates the acting skills of his co-stars, especially an “American legend” like Costner. The veteran actor has starred in several huge hits like “Field of Dreams,” “The Postman,” and “Dances With Wolves.”

Now, he’s making his mark as a rancher and landowner in Western Montana. John Dutton might just be one of the best characters on television right now. And White recognizes that. Already, he’s learned tons of tips and tricks from the living legend that he’ll take with him into future projects.

White sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this week to talk about “Yellowstone.” During the interview, White opened up about working with Costner and the rest of the cast.

“He’s a myth himself, a kind of legend of American cinema, western cinema,” White revealed to the outlet. “And I’m lucky in that Jimmy is awed by John Dutton in the same way that I’m awed by Kevin Costner. So the real gift of that is I never have to pretend that I’m not in awe of him.”

White can effortlessly channel his own emotions about working with Costner into his “Yellowstone” character. Ever since Season 1 of “Yellowstone,” fans have watched Jimmy try and try to live up to the expectations set by John Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Similarly, White clearly tries to live up to the example set by veteran actors like Costner.

‘Yellowstone’ Star Jefferson White Calls Kevin Costner and Other Co-Stars ‘Brilliant’

Several times throughout his interview with ET, “Yellowstone” star Jefferson White compared himself to Jimmy. Namely, he compared how both of them were relatively new to the skills they picked up during the show.

“He’s new to this, he’s desperately watching Rip, Lloyd, John Dutton, trying to pick up everything he can,” White said to the outlet. “And that’s absolutely the case for me on the show too. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such brilliant actors who I have admired for so long.”

It’s one thing to meet your role model in person. But to constantly work with them and have to prove your own skill in the same field is a whole different ball game. Luckily, White had other actors to look towards too.

“In the same way that Jimmy’s learning from those characters, I’m looking to Cole Hauser. Learning from Cole Hauser, learning from Kelly Reilly, learning from Kevin Costner. Every chance I get,” White concluded. “So the same way that Jimmy looks up to those characters and sort of aspires to earn their respect, I feel exactly the same way on set.”
